Tom Curran to replace Steven Finn so that’ll be 4 players with 3 Tests between them, Ball (3) Crane (0) Overton (0) and Curran (0).

Why on earth has Cricket Australia thrust Nathan Lyons into one of their pathetic trash talk sessions. He wouldn't frighten Bambi, FGS.

I think most of us would have picked this side www.ecb.co.uk/news/517492?utm_source=TWITTER&utm_medium=englandcricket&utm_content=100000101008826+&utm_campaign=Ashes%202017/18 for the first Test. Assuming that he is fit Ball should offer both more pace and more movement than Overton, and unfortunately there are no other batting options to consider at the moment. We have to hope that James Vince will somehow do a Bill Edrich and announce himself as a player with substance, and not just flair, at the 8th time of asking. Otherwise, if Cook can continue to escalate back towards his oldest and best form against Australia, if Stoneman can continue his development, if Root can make big hundreds and not get out in the 60s or 70s, if Malan can settle into No5, then we should make some runs, even against a classd bowling attack. Our own bowling looks to be coming good and much will depend on Woakes finding his best Test form immediately.Australia's batting sounds even more vulnerable than England's and early inroads could be decisive.

Matt Prior's Twitter frenzy continues this morning (so far 13 tweets), no doubt, still glowing in the fame of standing up to those bullying Aussies yesterday; although as flashblade suggests, Nathan Lyon is a snowflake compared to others. Question: Do you think Prior is seeking an in-road back into cricket? Perhaps, the cycling has not developed as he'd hoped? If you check out his Twitter, Prior has spent an exhausting morning in the media and public limelight. twitter.com/MattPrior13?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor

I've just found out the Ashes is on BT. First Champions League football now this - I'm very cross. My Sky Sports subscription is becoming more meaningless by the day - well year or so probably. Sky's not even got highlights as far as I can tell. Does anyone know of a highlights show on any of the billions of expensive channels I am privy to, please?

Where's the love? I will eat your bones and spit out your souls - if I'm still hungry after dinner.

Ballance for Ball. How can we expect to win with Moeen at 6? He should be batting at 8 and Woakes at 9. As for Smith v Root there was only one winner in Brisbane. Cook was a major disappointment. 5-0 to Australia as England look extremely weak and pathetic.

Unbalanced, negative and fearful. You know nothing about cricket.
Our six and seven are better than theirs, but we miss Stokes. Why that issue hasn't been resolved I don't know - it's all there on camera.
Two evenly balanced but fairly weak teams, compared to recent history, and I suspect it's anyone's. We often get tonked, then we tonk the same oppo next game. I think I'd play Overton for Ball though.
Having said all that, I haven't seen a single ball thanks to the horrendous coverage, so what do I know? I know you can't play three seamers and Ali, everybody should know that.

Wood has to come in to the side if he’s fit and he’s a better bat than Ball. Ali split one of his his bowling fingers on the seam of the ball on the second day when he came on after 8 overs which he’s had to glue. Hopefully he’ll mend in time for Adelaide but if not them Crane is our only other spinner which weakens the batting even more. Bairstow should be at 6 anyway. All in all it’s a hot mess!
