I think Borthwick, and Stoneman, if they can get him, would be two pretty good signings for Durham. They’ve not really done much of late for Surrey, but Durham have made a habit of going back for their exes’s, having previously snapped up Coughlin and Raine. There are the players out there, if we are prepared to go out there and get them. If Durham can do it, with all their financial problems, I’m sure a solvent Sussex can, if the desire is there

This is new times and Sussex now have to cut their cloth accordingly if they are to survive.

Can anyone clear up this rule change please. Are counties now allowed to field two overseas players of their choice next season, or is the ruling a special dispensation to allow only those with contracted Kolpaks to field the extra overseas player. For example, if we chose not to re-engage either Wiese or VanZyl, could we then bring in an overseas bowler?

There are no kolpaks next year and no special dispensation, if you want them back they count as an overseas.
Counties can now have 2 overseas for the CC and Sussex have intimated that Head and van Zyl will be the 2.
We could have Wiese back as an overseas for the T20 but not the CC if we go with Head and van Zyl.

Ok thanks, so we would have been able to choose any two overseas players Those would not have been my two choices

I was initially excited by the prospect of Travis Head this year but thinking about all the other signings Dizzy has brought in he’ll probably be just another dud.

The key positions we lack are, an opening partner for Salt, Haines is not yet ready but could perhaps bat down the order, and a new ball strike bowler to partner Robbo, at least until Garton can fulfil that role. Those are specialist roles, and unless those have been earmarked for quality domestic signings, they should have been our first priority

By my reckoning we’ll be left with a squad of 20 which includes Wright, Mills and Bopara who’ll presumably play white ball only. That leaves a squad of 17 for the CC including our 3 young debutants from this year Crocombe, Carson and Clark. So that 17 includes Crocombe and Carson😳 forget Tom Clark was already on the staff. Does that include Head and Van Zyl?
