When Orr plays against us Worrall, Roach, Atkinson etc will find him out easy. I think he could play for England in white ball cricket. Not test cricket for me. Someone said in a previous post about a drug culture at Surrey when Adams was coach. As far as I am aware it was only Hamilton Brown, Dernbach and Maynard who were involved in that sort of stuff. Farbrace is a good coach he will have decent players lined up to come in and make you lot a better team next season.

Ah well we'll see. A future England Player thats never been in a Lions Squad or a Young Lions Squad. Dont get me wrong its a big loss but lets not over state his ability. I would be willing to bet that Orr scores more runs for Hants than Hughes does for Sussex! Id take that bet, Huges is a better player currently than Ali Orr.

Having read all the comments and listened to the interviews I now think I have a reasonable understanding. What seems clear to me is that under Andrew's and Filby's watch the Cricket Committee did not function properly. I'm disappointed that both Gould and Adams have now resigned. I would rather they had stayed and made the Committee function for the benefit of our Club. What is also clear is that Farbrace has made a mistake letting Orr go. There must have been some way of keeping him at Sussex that didn't involve a huge outlay of money. I don't blame Orr and his Agent for looking at alternative options, as described by Farbrace.Others have said it on here and I agree, we must have money to be able to retain our good young players. Filby is a worry for me. This unfortunate event has shown he does and has not had his finger on the pulse.

Honest from Farbrace & I like it. Clear regrets and owning the situation. Refreshing and that’s how it should be.
New CEO please take note.
Filby is a clear liability. In my opinion Orr will play for England.
More worryingly he could be a player that sits just under that level & plays for Hampshire in all forms for 15 years churning out 00’s of runs like Vince. Errrrh!!

It is disappointing to have lost Ali Orr this week but from his point of view he was looking after number one & sadly that is the way the modern game is going with contracts and players tapped up possibly. His rumoured relationship with Paul F may well have made him staying impossible. As I said in an earlier post this week, most games were played without him last year and there are many other players out there. To be honest, having followed our club since 1976, I found it quite embarrassing at times last season with some of the performances with the largely same young players. If Farbrace has decided that a change is required with a number of more experienced players included and thus more expensive on wages, if it produces results, I for one won't quibble. I always find the rent-a-quoting from ex-players amusing, the game has changed since their day and players move on more nowadays and replacements are found. The clamour amongst some of the membership and supporters for greater involvement for Mr Adams in a more hands on way in coaching/administration is also puzzling. A brilliant captain & batsman for the club but in subsequent coaching or other roles very little of substance.

To be fair to him Graham. Adams done well with us to win the one day cup in 2011 and get us promoted to Div 1. Ok we got promoted because Stewie brought in Ojha the Indian spinner for the last few games who took loads of wickets.
2012 was just a write off after the sad death of Tom Maynard The mistake CA made was bringing in old players past their best Solanki Gary Keedy etc. I think he would do a decent job as a county coach somewhere.

I think so many people are attached to the past they cant move on from on it and thats part of the problem. Ultimately its just fantasy that making Adams head coach would solve all the problems and we'd win again and it'd all be very different. History tells us that it is often very different.
Keith asked me before Dizzy was appointed who'd id make head coach if i had the choice, I said Adams based on all i mention above. Maybe i cant move on from the past as well but i do wonder if he was appointed over Dizzy where we'd be now but its all unanswerable.
grahams post is excellent and is bang on when you take all the emotion out of it.

To 'Surrey Steve' Did you not see Surrey come down to Hove under him ?? Schoolboys warm up with more intensity !! Creating a drinking culture there and fracturing a dressing room & hardly filling up the trophy cabinet given all the Surrey riches & constant irritating throwing around of loads of money to acquire players (Come to Surrey, play for England !)', definitely amounts to very little of substance.

Couldn’t disagree more with some of Grahams post.
1. Ali Orr wasn’t tapped up at all, his agent approached the counties and Hants were interested (as I’m sure were many others) 2. There aren’t ’many other players out there’ which is evident from our lack of domestic signings. There certainly aren’t many with Orr’s ability or promise. 3. You talk about Farby bringing in experienced players as if you’re the first one to agree, we all agree! We all want Sussex to compete. 4. I wouldn’t want Chris Adams as head coach but I would like him to be involved with Sussex in some managerial capacity. (The same can’t be said for Matt Prior, the further he is away from Sussex cricket the better)
The jury is out for me on Farby. I thought he was an excellent appointment when he first arrived but there have been 3 fallouts with players that have seen all 3 leave the club (Bopara, Garton and Orr) and he’s the common denominator.
