If we knew Salt was leaving, we should have been in the market for a player such as Gubbins. If only Lancashire had a hard hitting batsmen / keeper who wanted to leave who we could have made a straight swap for Unfortunately players of that quality will be part of the test-playing ground merry-go-round and we'll only be left with the scraps

As a Kent supporter, can I just say that whilst agreeing with all those who have seen this as an inevitable result of the 16.4 cuckoo in the nest beloved of ECB officials keen to feather their own nest (enough avian analogies!), you should be happy that you seem to have so many promising young players - indeed we look somewhat enviously at those you have produced recently.
And if even only some go on to long professional careers, you will have the backbone of a good team, and know it is mostly home produced.

Of course it is disappointing to lose Salt and Jordan; but they have only contributed in the T20. The key will be the recruitment of all format players to support the young talent. No need to panic buy.

Sadly, that is the future of county cricket as top players move on to bigger TMG clubs.
Laurie Evans and Reece Topley, for example, used Sussex as their nursery ground to rediscover form or for rehabilitation. Jordan returns to his former Club, presumably for more money and somewhere he can finish his professional days. Perhaps, he's been offered a bowling coach job once retired? Salt is ambitious, so you cannot blame him. No doubt, he has been offered more money.
So, the pressure is even more on the Academy to deliver.
Sussex will lose money on both Jordan and Salt with money from the ECB for international appearances, but at least Robinson has taken over that financial role, especially now Archer is injured long-term.
Fascinating to see how Sussex will replace them? The reality is, what top player wants to come to Sussex unless specialising as a white ball cricketer?
It will be interesting to see what the impending news is that Andrew promises during the interview.

Surrey have already appointed him T20 captain for next season, maybe that's something he wanted permanently here instead of just as a stand in.

Sam Northeast is one of the only decent batsmen that look up for grabs - you'd hope we've thrown our hat in the ring for him

Northeast would be a reclamation project as he's absolutely gone off a cliff over the last couple of seasons. There is obviously a lot of talent there but something has gone wrong. If you sign him it needs to be on a 2 year deal at most.
On the subject of the academy - what is going to prevent this current situation happening again? There is no point in having a clutch of promising youngsters if the moment they get into their mid 20s and start looking really promising they get hoovered up by Surrey or one of the other TMG counties. I'd rather we don't become the Surrey feeder team...
The ECB have cocked up royally with an aspect of The Hundred here. Clubs are undoubtedly using it for leverage in recruitment (which they really shouldn't be). Topley's signing to Surrey was done with a side promise that he'd be selected in a certain slot. There is no way we can compete with the Hundred money and it's even more galling because it's not even am expense for the counties doing this!

Northeast is a good suggestion but if notts or Yorkshire want him they will get him.
Bowling wise it could be Plunkett.

Matt Prior on Twitter saying Sussex offered more money for them to stay but they still decided to go. Insinuating it’s the people at the top who are the problem without actually saying it.

This is all so strange. The club seems to both have and not have money at the same time and seems to also be able to attract yet not attract players. Prior is clearly insinuating there is something rotten at the top of the club without naming names. Though if this is his stance my view is he should just outright say it rather than going all wink-wink nudge-nudge. I'm sure the members will have a lot of questions. Whether they either get to ask them or get a remotely good answer is another matter.

There are more things to life than money, I expect Salt thought it would enhance his England prospects by moving & Jordan got the T20 captaincy at Surrey or maybe they both just got tired of playing in team that was put together for winning the Blast but keeps falling at the final hurdles because it's not quite good enough.

Don’t agree. If you’re good enough England will find you, look at Ollie Robinson. I wouldn’t be surprised if Tymal was picked for the T20 WC either. Jordan has gone to Surrey, how far have they got in the Blast the last few years? There’s something amiss at the club
