While I disagree with his sentiments expressed here and in other threads he hasn't really said anything overly offensive, best way to deal with childish attention seekers & wind up merchants is just to not rise to it I called my friend a p*ki he said, which as we know isnt friendly banter. I take your point, @andyb. However, it was posted as a historical event and, like it or not, such ‘banter‘ was not illegal in the past. However, for that reason, I have asked forum members to keep on topic and not make comments that may be construed as racist. I am not a lawyer and don’t want to be making judgements on whether comments are just the right side of the line or not. Therefore, future posts that are borderline will be moderated.

I'd like to make a comment about 'banter'. It's often - as my wife (white, but not British) says - simply an excuse for rudeness or prejudice. Without wanting in any way to compare what she has experienced over 40 years of living in the UK, it gives her (and me) an insight into what someone who is not white might have had to put up with. One example: we live on a new estate for the over 55s - a few weeks ago we were looking at the building works still going on a few hundred metres from where we live, and we got talking to one of the new residents, a very chatty (and clearly well educated/well heeled chap); learning that my wife comes from France, he told us (after 'knowing' us for 5 minutes or so) 'Great country France...pity about the French, though'. As we walked away my wife said 'I expect he'd call that banter', and we knew that he and his wife won't become our friends (fortunately almost the rest of our neighbours are lovely). But imagine having similar (or worse) comments made almost every day due to your colour etc.!

I spoke to a Sussex supporter a few years ago. We had a lengthy chat. During it he told me that during the 1970s he played for
an all-black cricket side. His nickname was Chalky. He told me he wasn't upset by this name, but saw it as a term of endearment.
He went on to become good friends with all the players and thoroughly enjoyed playing for them.
My point being: Is Chalky or should I write Ch**ky a word that is now censored? My question is a serious one.

The way you describe it, it sounds like mutually accepted banter to me. I have a personal view, which is that some white people have an inherent (maybe sub-conscious) sense of superiority that they seek to reinforce by putting down non-whites by the use of derogatory expressions. Over the years, they have collectively sought to gloss over and defend this behaviour by agreeing to call it 'banter'. On the contrary, I suspect that Chalky was not being put down by his black mates, but was encouraged to be part of the team.

Yorkshire chairman Roger Hutton resigns but not without further mud slinging in the direction of the ECB and the remaining Yorkshire CCC management.
The plot thickens and the accusations continue. More resignations to come methinks and further damage to our beloved game. A very sad time indeed.

Fb,
Calling a white person Cha**ky sounds like banter to me.
I suspect that Chalky was not being put down by his black mates, but was encouraged to be part of the team.
Using your logic P*ki then is no different and therefore the word Ch**ky should be censored too.

You're not listening, WC. That wasn't my logic. I was trying to explain why I thought that white on black was different to black on white, in the examples we were discussing.

Can we keep on topic, please? The topic is Racism issue at Yorkshire CCC not anecdotes about racism.

Poor ol' Mod. Such a highly sensitive subject. Perhaps, moving on to discuss critical race theory
is not a good idea!

So liquidskin has put up 2 posts on this subject. 1 he has admitted using racist language as banter. If the forum tolerates this are we as a collective the same as YCCC or do we condemn that post and make a stance against this? And 2 he has...? Gopher the throat. Don't take the advice of a coward whatever you do.

Just ask them to stop spreading racist slurs would be a start. Their attempts at bullying me have been ignored but racism shouldnt and cannot be ignored by any forum While I disagree with his sentiments expressed here and in other threads he hasn't really said anything overly offensive, best way to deal with childish attention seekers & wind up merchants is just to not rise to it Ah, caught at last. I had a good run. Incidentally Randall, have you ever managed to write a sentence without the edit button?

The reporting of it is.Sex can also come back and bite you on the arse 20 years later, despite it being mutual. So, re the Yorkshire affair - how would a right wing report differ from a left wing report? They might put different slants on the story, but it doesn't alter what actually went on. How does politics affect the principle? We disagree on the principle, that's the point. What the left see as racism the right see as banter. Where was he when it happened? What was he saying back? Why not pull someone to one side? Why say now? If someone calls you a name, tell them not to. Don't harp on about it ten years later cos your career has failed. Why do lefty broadsheets think it's more important to challenge name calling from a white person than black on black murder or mass child rape committed by non whites on whites? Each by the thousand year on year. Yet some moron calls Rashford or this lad a name and they go through the roof. Totally disproportionate agenda.
