I think the argument about our bowling attack can be put to bed now, it’s rubbish! It’s all very well saying our bowlers will learn their trade better if they have to work for wickets but there must come a point where we grind them into the dust once too often. Surely there must be a compromise between a green seamer and a road. Today’s game was over as a contest before we went into bat.

That was a proper spanking against a team that themselves got soundly beaten in their first game by Worcs. It augurs very badly but in one day cricket, fortunes can fluctuate, so fingers crossed for a big improvement next time. Pencil Steve Finn in for his next game late in 2025. Steve Finn contract should be termianted with immediate effect. Unforutately his body cannot live up to the rigours of county cricket. The red flags have been there for years where Finn is concerned. We gave him a three-year contract anyway. More fool Sussex - didn’t learn from stupid Mitchell Claydon contract. Let’s see what happens with the two-year deal given to Wright.

Whoever gave three years to Finn should be sacke on the grounds of incompetence. I too think you didn't need to offer Wright more than one year.

We can probably all remember the circumstances. Rocked by the departures of Salt and Jordan, the club was clutching at straws to find reinforcements. Finn was a well known name and available, so they ignored his age and fitness record in the absence of other options. Now we repent at our leisure.
Nothing against Steve Finn who’s an intelligent and likeable cricketer. He obviously wasn’t going to turn down a final playing payday. He might make a good bowling coach (we certainly need one) but his next career step looks set to be in commentary/punditry.

The reality is we were beaten by 2 very special innings, was a pleasure to be there and see it. Let's be realistic realab. Yes, they did bat well, but our bowlers didn't make it very difficult for them. Not one of our bowlers exercised any degree of control. The game was as good as over as a contest after the first twenty overs of the Durham innings. There is no excuse for leaking 427 runs with our best bowling economy rate of 7.75 runs per over coming from a part-time seamer. It was at times carnage!! The mid/lower order Durham batters had complete freedom given how quickly their top order scored. Hopefully, it is a reality check, Farbrace will read them the riot act and we shall see a much improved performance on Sunday. If not, given our limited alternatives bowling wise, we are in real trouble.

What really disappointed me in this game was our lack of a plan to restrict their top three; who by the way batted really well. I always look at the field positions to try and understand what lines the bowler should be bowling. But it seemed clueless. No plan. Batters given options to play freely on both sides of the wicket. I was also hacked off by the Harms post match interview. He seems to revel in Sussex playing sh*te. He needs to try and find some positives; or at least ask Farbrace decent questions. Moan over.

When you get thrashed by 132 runs it is very hard to be very positive.
