I’m now even more mystified as to why Liam Dawson wasn’t selected for this tour. Hope the series doesn’t prove devastating to the confidence of our young spinners and I’m glad Carson isn’t in the firing line. Do you reckon he wasnt selected? Or do you reckon his SA20 contract was worth too much with any guarantees of long term selection? Great test match as there was in Brisbane, test cricket is alive and kicking.

Well, a few of us got this game and Mr Hartley’s inclusion wrong.

What I meant to say earlier of course was that Tom Hartley was an obvious selection who was bound to come good and is vastly superior to Liam Dawson 😗
Seriously this is one of the extraordinary days in Test cricket history. Hope we all remembered to put a few quid on England and West Indies both winning today!

What an extraordinary win for the bookies! The Daily Mail says nearly £700,000 was placed on Betfair Exchange alone with odds standing at 1/20 for an Indian victory or a 95% chance win. That's how certain the bookies were, just offering £1 win for each £20 bet. So that money was lost giving the bookies a fantastic windfall. Wow! Let that sink in. Globally, especially in Asia, £££tens of millions, perhaps, £££hundreds of millions were lost on the game. The Asian bookies will be partying throughout 2024. The best UK odds on the Windies beating Australia was 11/2 from Sporting Index. I am not sure what a double would have won you. A lot, no doubt. Yet, this doesn't beat the outrageous 500/1 odds during the Aussie Headingley third test of the 1981 Ashes series, when Australia were widely expected to win the match with England at 135-7 after having been made to follow-on. Dennis Lillee and Rod Marsh infamously placed a bet on England to win the match. Imagine how that would have played out today. Both Aussie cricketers might have gone to prison on match-fixing claims. Back to the England victory, please god their win wasn't fixed by the Indian players. www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/cricket/article-13016455/Punters-lose-hundreds-thousands-betting-India.html

I doubt its a fixed game, youd need quite a few players in on that one and wouldnt be an ideal start getting a first innings lead of 190, England just play a brand of cricket now that means they are never entirely out of any game of cricket. I said to my mate after day 2 theres only 1 team in the world that can come back from this and thats England, fearless cricket is breathtaking to watch at times.

Big toss to lose in this test but where the game was lost for England was our set batter in both innings failed to go and make the telling score each Indian did in the 1st and 2nd innings.
Root is the big frustration for me at the moment, wasting his talent playing this way. Even Bazball needs some glue.

Agreed re Root. As England's best batsman, what we needed from him, especially in the second innings, was the Root of old, going slowly through the gears, going about his business of accumulating runs without resorting to unnecessarily aggressive shots. With the pre-Bazball Root at the crease we might well have won.

No Ollie Rob again in the England XI. He hasn’t played now since July last year (cricket that is, he’s played loads of golf!)

Robinson named in the starting XI for the 4th Test tomorrow. Let’s hope he does well and stays fit.

So far 12 overs @ 4 an over, 6 no balls and no wickets. Bowling not going as well as his batting which isn’t really surprising considering he’s not bowled in a match in 6 months.

As you say quite a lot Joe, stats dont always tell a story! If youve watched it youll know he bowled very well and was an opinion shared by all pundits.

I have watched it and am still of the opinion that he’s undercooked. Overstepping is a big bugbear of mine, get your foot behind the line ffs! If he was bowling well he’d have bowled more than 13 overs.

Bazball is great but you cant keep putting the wrong players in and expect to win.
My team for the first test of the Summer would be
1. Crawley 2. Duckett 3. Bohannon 4. Root 5. Brook 6. Stokes 7. Rew 8. Dawson 9. Robinson 10. Wood 11. Porter

Good wind up! Pope who got 196 a few tests ago is dropped and the best keeper in the world too. Porter gets in ahead of Jimmy!
Dawson ahead of Bashir who has just bowled great and got 5 wickets. Nice try!

Nice try! I’m in favour of selecting as many Surrey players as possible to give other counties a chance in the Championship 😅
