Yes, I though we had the Gnome.
It goes top to bottom:
Ray East Gooch Fletcher Hardie Phillip David East ?? Gladwin Pringle Pont
I think the missing name is Stuart Turner, and it's the heavy backwards slant that makes it difficult to decipher.
But they are all signed in a reasonably cultured hand. The modern players don't have proper signatures at all; just a squiggle. I could show you my signed copies of recent autobiographies by Cook, Broad, Panesar, Pietersen and several others and I swear you wouldn't be able to tell which signature is which...
The weirdest one is Cook. He asked me my name, and then unprompted wrote a personalised best wishes dedication in a lovely, almost copper plate hand - and then followed it with a signature that was just two lines of the crudest squiggle you ever saw. I wanted to ask him why go to such care and trouble - and then spoil it. But I didn't!

OMG, if that's the last thing I ever write I'll die a happy man. It won't be though, I may as well post some irritations now that I've bothered to log in. A little insight into my mindset perhaps that the thought of that joke was the only thing that made me bother to. Hiyaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwww

Many thanks to Hhs, Bm, Jon Filby and others for your magnificent sleuthing. There is still a question-mark surrounding Phillip... The final list is then?
Ray East Graham Gooch Keith Fletcher Brian Hardie Norbert Phillip David East Alan Lilley Chris Gladwin Derek Pringle Keith Pont
Edit: Ahh, is that Norbert Phillip, the West Indian, although signature Christian name bears little correlation.

The mystery over Jimmy Anyon and why he hasn't played in the recent friendly matches is now resolved. Jimmy left the club over the Winter months. It must have been after November because I briefly spoke to him at the 'Meet The Players' event at 'The Cricketers Pub' where he proved to be a dab hand at darts. The give away was an article by Steve Hollis in 'The Evening Argus' published on March 4th where he mentions Anyon as one of 6 players to leave Sussex CCC. The problem being, less than 13,000 people now read the Argus and I have only just viewed the article. Best of luck with your futurePerhaps, my sleuthing work let me down, but there has been no mention on the Sussex CCC Website or Twitter; no chance for supporters to send him their best; no opportunity for fans to discuss the departure as the new season beckons. Just silence. Perhaps, Jimmy wanted to leave without a fuss? Anyway, I would like to wish him every good luck for his future, whether this remains in cricket or another field of work.

Good luck to Anyon.
This isn't that unusual, to be honest. I know of several players in the last couple of years who have left counties without an announcement, and it has invariably been the player who put an x in the box marked 'no publicity'.
I'm sure Sussex would have have wanted to thank him publicly for his service, and I'm equally certain the lack of such a tribute can only have been at the player's request.

Perhaps he ticked the box "no publicity until Steve Hollis leaks the news"

S&f if you had attended Cricket Society meetings over the winter, this news is no surprise. MD before Christmas and KG after both said his career was in serious doubt.

fred,
I agree with you. The news comes as no surprise.
My point being, that a decision had been made by the club and Jimmy a fair few months ago that he was leaving Sussex CCC before the start of the new season. So, why wasn't this important piece of information not mentioned on the club website? It took two separate threads on this 'Unofficial Sussex CCC Forum' yesterday, to finally prompt the club into action to send out a media press release. Yet, Steve Hollis had already written about Jimmy's departure in the Evening Argus over a month ago.
Had the club simply forgotten to tell supporters or was there a good reason not to?

No S&F I think you miss the point. Those who attended meetings and club lunches during the winter were told it was unlikely Jimmy would play again. So total honesty. But we were also led to believe he was still striving to continue, so all respect to him. Who knows when the final decision was taken, and no doubt there were insurance issues relevant. But I think your statement above that a decision had been made a"fair few months ago" is wrong, though at that time there were likely expectations.
