A very interesting piece of marketing I hope it succeeds.

A very interesting piece of marketing I hope it succeeds. Agreed, worth a try and I hope they will try to collect as much feedback as possible so that other counties can look at the evidence and see what difference it might make for them.

When Derbyshire seconds rock up to Scarborough tomorrow morning for a three day game they will be confronted by the following Yorkshire team: Alex Lees, Adam Lyth, Will Rhodes, Andrew Hodd,Dan Hodgson,Glen Maxwell, Ryan Gibson, Josh Shaw, Ryan Sidebottom, Karl Carver and Ben Coad.

Just listened to Worcester bowled out for 80 to lose by an innings to Warwickshire. They seem to play ok for half a match and then capitulate. It is very hard to see them staying up at this rate. Somerset to join them in div 2 is my current prediction.

7-56 on debut for Matthew Carter. As for Somerset they need to start relying on youth. When you have players of the calibrate of Abell, Jamie and Craig Overton, Gregory, Bates and Dockrell it is easier to do so. In the current game their youngest bowler out of six used was 31.
Worcestershire beaten in two days.
That Yorkshire second team is seriously taking the piss. Mosun Hussain scored a ton for the seconds and gets dropped!

Somerset to join them in div 2 is my current prediction. The likeliest outcome from this round of matches is that Somerset will lose and the bottom three will read Hants 69, Worcs 62, Somerset 60. And that isn'y very far away from what most people would have assumed at the start of the season, although the depths of Somerset's decline are a little more profound than might have been anticipated. The top and middle are much more complex. Warwickshire's demolition of Worcester puts them a strong second to Durham with a game in hand. Yorkshire are handiest placed of all with two games over Durham, one over Warwicks and Middlesex with not many points separating them. Sussex could join this pack if we can beat Durham, but only as the tailenders and where we are at present - 5th- is almost certainly the best we can hope for at season's end, and a lot more than we deserve with our wretched batting and bowling that repeatedly lets sides off the hook and loses games we should win.

Remarkable win by Somerset so Notts are now the team in trouble. Their next match is away at Yorkshire so problems are looming.

Three batting points for Somerset against Hampshire yesterday and the prospect of more to come start to inflate Somerset's rescue balloon taking them away from the depths of relegation. Meanwhile Hampshire and Worcestershire sink a little more each day, and Notts begin a crucial game against Yorkshire today. By the time Sussex go to Birmingham next Sunday we could be as low as 7th in the table; we won't remain at 5th. If Somerset carry on to get another batting point this morning, and all three bowling points that will bring them to 80, and even a draw will take them above Sussex. A Hampshire recovery would and a a win would also take them past our 84 points. Whatever Worcester do against Middlesex they will stay bottom, but Notts have to get a win against Yorkshire at Leeds, improbable as that seems, to get out of danger. Yorkshire will have Lyth and Ballance from the Test team, plus Bresnan and perhaps the return of Sidebottom, alongside Brooks, Pattesrson, Leaning, Gale and the other regulars. For them a win without so many of their international stars will take them up to within a game of Durham at the head of the table, and it looks very reminiscent now of the Yorkshire team of the 60s that could lose two or three of Trueman, Close, Boycott and Illingworth to Tests and still win championships year after year.

Just returned from a sodden Headingley. Notts look relegation candidates on this form. Brendan Taylor,Mullaney and Wessells showed some application but the rest just looked fragile and surrendered meekly.Samit Patel had the remarkable record of two successive pairs on this ground and batted as if he knew it only too well. He did at least get 4 today so will sleep more easily.
The Yorkshire seam attack is relentless and can be supplemented by Plunkett and Fisher when necessary. Rashid will return after tomorrow's pointless 20/20 and is likely to be available for the immediate future as he has not been picked for the Spain Ashes trip.
Curiously both of Yorkshire's overseas Australian superstars (Maxwell & Finch) are deemed surplus to requirements and are relegated to playing for the seconds at Barndt Green.

When was the last time a player took ten wickets on debut and was dropped for the next game?

I love the idea of Samit sleeping easily now that he has inched his way to 4! Equally intrguing are that Plunkett, yesterday's darling, is on a level with the colt Fisher as a reserve, and that Yorkshire have so much talent on the books that they can afford to keep Maxwell and Finch, both hugely expensive, as show ponies...which is, of course, what they are!

Finch rushed to hospital after being hit in the second XI game but seems to be OK as he is not being kept in overnight. Poor chap, becuase he's only just returing from an injury that kep him out of the IPL.

Yorkshire have trusted their youth and their youth are delivering, along with a couple of decent outside signings, per usual. Not sure if they've trusted them because they could see they were outstanding early on, or they just chucked them in at the deep end and hoped for the best. Possibly a mix of the two. Team to beat though and masses of strength in depth it seems - like Andrew Hodd.
