Well done indeed, even though he doesn't seem to be able to get into the Sussex side.

Well done indeed, even though he doesn't seem to be able to get into the Sussex side. Strange .... I seem to remember him playing in our 50 over side. That is after all the format for which he has been called up to the England Lions squad. Maybe one of our selectors watched him on Sky!

He'll be like a rusty old gate by the time he gets to that. Unless we do the right thing and play him ourselves.

Good enough for England Lions but not good enough for Sussex! He was still 18 at the start of this season. Whittingham is 3-4 years older than Garton. How many other 18-19 year old quick bolwers are playing regular red-ball cricket? Sussex have a poor record in recent seasons with injuries to fast bowlers (Amjad, Anyon, Shahzad, Mills, Hatchett etc etc) and they are surely right to manage carefully the workload of such a potentially valuable asset?

Of course they're right to carefully manage the workload of Garton but if they think that means never playing him they're doing it wrong. Nobody is suggesting that he plays regular red ball cricket are they, so why say that BM? Some cricket is the way forward for any young player. He played three games on the bounce when he was 18 and was our best bowler by most accounts, where's the logic in not playing him at all now he's 19, he's older than he was then.
Why he didn't play in this tour game is a real head-scratcher for me. He's hardly bowled, even for the seconds where he didn't bowl at all in the second innings of the last game. Our next game is Friday, a game he shouldn't be involved in anyway. Unless he's injured, this ain't the right way to develop talent. Players need to play.

You've just proved my point by naming the ONLY 18 year old bowler playing semi-regular f/c cricket. It's the rarity which is why he gets so much publicity and is the only reason you've heard of him. Every county has 18 year old fast bowlers, but most of them have played even less f/c cricket than George Garton. Ask youself why... There's an awful lot of things wrong with the way Sussex cricket has been managed in recent seasons, both on and off the field. The smart and careful nursing and nurturing of Garton isn't one of them.

4 wickets for Garton today for the Lions, 3 of them bowled.
Let's hope he brings that form to Hove on Wednesday.

What a week for young Garton. 4/43 for the Lions on Monday, 3/40 for Sussex on Wed and now career best figures of 4/16 last night.
Thank goodness someone at the club got his signature on a long term contract at the beginning of the season.
