After 16 overs, I'm liking this. I still expect Sussex to find a way of stuffing it up later in the innings, because it is a big target. But this is really smart, intelligent cricket from Wright and Machan.

I'm sure his presence in the dressing room is a boost for Sussex but George Bailey has yet to earn his plane ticket, let alone his salary, on the field!

And it's now time for Joyce to earn his keep for the first time this season and show why he has taken the captaincy back from Wright for this competition...

Poor shot selection Machan. Game over I'm afraid.
Another low score for Cachopa. Why is Brown not playing? Beer and Yardy not playing either. Very strange team selection by Robinson.

There have always been conflicting signals on team selection; did Robinson leave out Brown and Beer - or was it Joyce?
Brown, Beer and Zaidi in on Thurs v Notts , please.

Don't care who made the decision it's just plain wrong. Three changes for Thursday with Beer, Brown and Yardy replacing Cachopa, Wells and Mills. Unless he can bowl ten overs Mills is of little use.

Don't see the prob with Alfonso's selection at all. We have a huge gap with all the injuries to seamers. We've taken a big risk by not picking a proper spinner though and unless Wells contributes with the bat, that will not have worked. Which it has not.

Time to take the positives out of this dire season.

At least we have the T20 home QF to look forward to on August 12th. So not exactly dire... yet.

That's a heavy, heavy defeat and a demoralising start to the competition.
Let's give the white ball captaincy back to Wright; Joyce has lost seven of his last ten matches in charge.
Hants played three proper spinners, who took eight wickets. Sussex left out Beer and Zaidi and relied on two part-timers, Wells and Nash.
As for Cachopa,no one doubts Brown is the better keeper. But on this season's form he's also the better batsman:-
Cachopa three fifties in 29 innings - Brown two centuries plaus three fifties in 26 innings.
But I fully expect Cachopa to keep for the remaining six games in the 50 overs cup because when Robinson and Joyce get one of their "notions" into their heads, they tend not to stop until they have tested it to destruction.

Time to take the positives out of this dire season. Well losing four-day games inside the three days, it's easy to see the positives : the players get an extra day off. Not sure what the positives are in getting stuffed in a one-dayer, though!

It's always really tough to chase these big 350+ scores, we actually did OK to get to 40 overs still theoretically in the game. I think selection was poor again which doesn't help, but another encouraging innings from Machan, albeit slower than some of his Championship ones!

We shouldn't have needed to chase such a total, although as soon as I saw that attack, I thought it would only be our batsmen who'd win it. In truth, our batting was strong enough to have made a much better fist of it than they did A bit embarrassing in the end
