Nah not for me JB, especially if we stay in div 2. Salt for Joyce, Finch for Taylor, Garton for Mags and an overseas all-rounder for the damn balance that has plagued us all season, and beyond. Father time waits for no man, birthdays and weekends end and you have to move on. Plus all that would free up some corn if we feel we do need to add someone, which we almost definitely would.

And now it looks as if we will have to replace Joyce. We can't do it from within, and we are unlikely to tempt any decent domestic openers, so maybe we'll have to use the overseas route. It's annoying, because finally we looked to have sorted our top order In fact, it's doubly annoying, because we also need an all rounder to balance the side. Looks like we'll have to dip into that rainy day kitty, if of course we can find anyone who's willing to come

Borthwick, Chopra, Duckett, Hales, Stone and Stoneman all possibly moving but with little chance of Sussex being able to attract such marquee signings when they are languishing in division two.

You can add Matt Coles to that list. Suspended for a month by Kent (allegedly they wrote a no-drinking clause into his deal and he's been charged with breach of contract). Coles absolutely fuming and will be off at the end of the season. And if eight counties are after Ollie Stone, he will clearly have no end of suitors. The offence was committed in Cardiff on June 18 so he may still be suspended for the four day game v Sussex at Tunbridge Wells beginning on July 17. Good news for Sussex for an opening pair of Coles and Rabada would be a real handful. Jesse Ryder leaving Essex, too. Could he be the all-rounder Sussex are lacking after the foolish sacking of Zaidi?

Has he hurt himself or is his bowling just surplus to requirements?

Correct. He has an injury that prevents him bowling for the moment. Hasn't been able to bowl for the last six weeks.

If Ed leaves, we will be in the market for an opener. Under this regime, I can't even see us going for an opener of similar quality, so you'd have to rule out the likes of Hales, Stoneman and Chopra. We'd probably end up with someone like Porterfield. Of course, if we could find a domestic all rounder, then we might have more joy enticing an overseas opening bat. The problem is, all rounders are a valued commodity, especially England qualified ones

Unless you can get the likes of Stoneman/Chopra, you have to produce your own to replace out-goers. We have to learn from the mistakes of the past and not sign the Porterfields of the world, there is no point, you would be better off promoting Salt or Finch to replace Joyce.

And Finch is doing his best this morning to vindicate that.

Would have to agree re signing players who are no better than what we have. Also, bringing in the youngsters to replace players like Liddle and Piolet, makes complete sense to me. You don't lose any discernible quality, and the younger players have the potential to improve. They will also be cheaper. Our problem recently, has been not replacing quality like RHB, Yardy, Prior, Hobden and Jimmy Anyon. Finch, Salt and Hudson-Prentice are now an integral part of the squad, but, and I mean them no disrespect, they do not even come close to offering what Joyce does. If we don't replace Joyce with a player of similar calibre, then we will slip further down the ranks. I want to see a blend of local youngsters, players who've come through the ranks, supplemented by quality imports.

With the greatest of respect who of any quality is going to want to sign for Sussex with us languishing 15th out 18?
