There's an interesting little thing about Beer's career which rather aptly sums up Sussex's struggles.
He made his FC debut for Sussex in the 2008 Champion County vs MCC match. He played his last FC in 2021, when Sussex came bottom of Division 3
Whatever Sussex's current travails, I never got the impression Beer gave anything less than 100% for the team, despite some very shoddy management. A legspinner averaging 28 with the bat and 36 with the ball would be welcome in most first class teams (and given more than 28 FC games over 14 years), but it seems the coaches were determined he would play perpetual second fiddle.
Good luck to him for the future, whether he lands a cricketing role somewhere or takes the financial planning job he has lined up.

I also hope that Beer gets picked up by another county and would love to see him do well. . It could be the making of him after so many years of limited opportunities. Under Gillespie he did get the odd chance to perform well with the bat when circumstances allowed him to bat in in the top order for a while. It's incredible that he has been Sussex's top T20 wicket taker, but has been so undervalued. Not going to happen as he has a job lined with a financial planning company in Haywards Heath. He did say in interview that he’d like to carry on with his cricket career if an opportunity arose. He’s still studying for exams in the financial sector but has lined up a job in the future once he’d passed.

Thinking about it, you would imagine that Will would be an asset to a number of counties for the 50-over tournament coming up, where so many of them have seriously depleted teams because of The Hundred

Half a career missing thanks to Robinson. I spent a lot of time singing Beer's name on the old board back in the late noughties & early tenties - think Ishant X 100. He spent a lot of time taking 5fors for the 2s, scoring lower/middle order runs and wondering what he had to do back then to get a run in the firsts. Should have happened around 9/10. Which is part noughties, part tenties. Good luck to him. Still wants to play pro it seems. Hope someone picks him up, hope they give him a Champ game, hope he gets a run and hope he takes loads of wickets and wins matches in the second innings. Not least so I can say I was right ten years later than when I was right. Because I like being right and I usually am right. Right? Did you see Robinson's tweet? He single handily wrecked Beer's career. I'm not a twit but I did see it, on here. And I nearly choked on my Champagne. Robinson probably didn't get much wrong to be fair but I was always baffled by his stance on Beer. The greatest shame is nobody can definitively say if Beer would have succeeded or not because he simply wasn't given a proper chance. Ever. And his stats are pretty good from the very limited games he did play. Astonishing, and a waste.

And us maybe Enoughisenough. We lost Lenham late to the Hundred last year. Carson's out presumably. Rawlins should be at the Hundred too. Who we got to twirl us to 50 over glory?
