So on 62-4 they'd be on track?? You mean either/or. For Sussex to have won Middlesex would need to have been 61-1. What captain bats first with rain expected? Poor captaincy. Everyone knows with D/L there is a massive advantage to batting second. Well done Joyce for handing Middlesex two points!

At lunch the BBC weather forecast had no mention of rain this evening. Another D/L farce and why cricket will always remain a minority sport compared to those where rain is seen as an irritation and not a full-blown hindrance.
I read Boycott is complaining about the Old Trafford farce. As he points out, "There's a bigger picture. People play a fortune to watch. That's bigger than a couple of cricketers slipping over."

Meh, glad I never travelled down on Friday. Looked at the forecast and thought it might come to this, disappointing I suppose, but we didn't really post a score. Still down tomorrow see the Owls take the points at the Amex

Jonboy unless we had scored 325 we would still have lost on D/L. Just goes to show what a crazy decision it was to bat first. There was a 40% chance of rain from 1pm so Joyce should have been aware of this at the toss and batted second.

Can someone explain something to me. I thought this comp was being played to the international rules. In which case I thought for d/l 20 overs were required. Therefore why was there a result after just 18. I notice the Kent game was a no result after they had faced 8 and a bit overs. So is this comp 10 min for a result and not 20. The d/l score was on the scoreboard from 5 overs, so very confused.
Appears I have now answered my own question, it is not a direct international copy, 10 overs min in group then 20 from quarter final and onwards.

Why can't some common sense be applied - even without rain radar etc, it was obvious there was a bit of weather about. In all limited over competitions wouldn't it be better to reduce the overs at the start (in this instance 30/30) so there is at least some tangible competition rather than stats and bad maths ruining any sort of spectator event?

Tell that to Simon Jones. . . Seems Boycott is prepared to compromise player safety in order to keep the punters happy. I disagree - to put it very mildly!

Did anyone on here go to the match yesterday?
What sort of crowd turned up?
Any views yet on the 2:00 - 10:00 format?

Crowd probably similar to Tuesday night. Worth going to see Cachopa put a six in the top tier of the pavilion. They were using same pitch as Tuesday, so centre of square.

Good idea. Innings could be played in 20 over blocks (Team A bats 20, Team B bats 40, Team A bats 30, Team B bats 10). Or using your 30/30. Play that then complete both innings if possible.

The problem with doing that is knowing when it is going to rain. The shorter the match the more likely the side batting second will win as they will know what they're chasing. The rule regarding number of overs to constitute a game is ridiculous. It should be the same for all matches regardless of the stage of the competition!
