Absolutely buzzing for this! The weather forecast is looking a bit wet on Friday & Saturday but good on Sunday & Monday.
I'd imagine we'll end up with a team something along the lines of...
Wells Finch / Salt Van Zyl Burgess Wright Brown Robinson Beer / Wiese Whittingham Sakande Sharma
Not too sure what will happen regarding openers. Wells will surely open up but who is to partner him?! Salt has had lots of chances pre-season but not really made any scores. Van Zyl could be the other option and Finch down at 3?

I will give anyone two whole British pounds if they can guess the line-up and order of our side before the squad is announced. damned if I can and I think that's a bad sign.
There seems to be a lot of sea mist around Sussex right now. Maybe it's just me but we seem awfully under prepared in every possible way.
Still, from what I do know of the squad, which isn't a lot, I'll put down the team I would play presuming everyone is fit.
Wells Haines Van Zyl Finch Wright Salt Brown Robinson Garton Whittingham Ishant

I don’t think Haines will play and I believe Garton is still coming back from injury so my ill informed guess would be:
Wells Salt van Zyl Wright Finch Burgess Brown (c, +) Wiese Robinson Whittingham Sharma

Think joe has it spot on although Sakande may play for Whittingham if the latter isn’t 100% ready.

Preview:
Our last five CC games against Warwickshire have produced three wins and two draws, so there is good cause for optimism. The last three games have all been memorable for different reasons.
In the last one at Edgbaston both teams scored over 600 runs whilst losing 6 wickets. There was, predictably, no time for any further play and a dull draw was the outcome. Nash, Wright, Brown and Zaidi took over advantage of conditions and each scored tons.
The previous encounter was at Hove and was memorable for its exciting finale. In a game where the scores in all four innings were with 10 of 190, Sussex scrambled over the line scoring 190 for 9 to win by one wicket. Chris Jordan scored a magnificent 56 not out in 34 balls to turn a game that was slipping away; he ended with a six that just cleared deep mid-on if I recall correctly.
The previous encounter to this was at Horsham. James Tredwell was the hero for Sussex in that game as he took 4 for 7 to rattle out Warwickshire for 99 in the fourth innings and ensure a comfortable victory. Of course, all these encounters took place in Division One.
Last season also we began with an away game to relegated opponents. It heralded a poor start to the season as Nottinghamshire beat Sussex by an innings and 55 runs with Sussex fielding a below strength side.
Warwickshire had a poor season last year, finishing bottom 60 points behind also relegated Middlesex. They ended their season with 4 defeats and 1 draw to ensure relegation to Division Two. The only bright spot last season for Warwickshire (or Birmingham Bears) was reaching the final of the T20 Blast which they lost to Nottinghamshire.
Warwickshire will be hoping to return to Division One at the first attempt but after a poor season, they will not start as favourites, particularly with 2016 Champions, Middlesex, in Division Two. A good result for Sussex would still be a good signal against one of the more fancied sides in the Division. We will see.

Sussex squad: Ben Brown, Will Beer, Michael Burgess, Harry Finch, Ollie Robinson, Phil Salt, Ishant Sharma, Will Sheffield, Stiaan van Zyl, Stuart Whittingham, David Wiese, Luke Wells, Luke Wright.
My XI would be: Wells, Salt, Finch, Van Zyl, Burgess, Wright, Brown (+), Wiese, Robinson, Whittingham, Sharma.

I hope Finch isn’t played at 3, he’s too exposed there, we’re likely to be 30/2 in most games if Finch follows Salt. Better for Finch to come in lower down the order.

I hope Finch isn’t played at 3, he’s too exposed there, we’re likely to be 30/2 in most games if Finch follows Salt. Better for Finch to come in lower down the order. At least if he's at three I won't have to give you two whole British pounds. I can't afford it, had a real tough winter, people aren't eating emu like they used to. I too think you may have nailed the eleven there. Although I don't expect Wright to grow a pair and bat at four. I agree too that Finch should be 4/5. Van Zyl needs to step up to three. Sheffield is a spinner isn't he? I really don't get why we're including two spinners in the squad and no Sakande - presuming he is a spinner. Is it a sign that Beer will play? Not that Sheffield needs to be in the squad if he does. I don't think Wiese is good enough to be part of a four man attack. Off the back of the squad I will go again, with what I think not want: Wells Salt Finch Van Zyl Wright Brown Weise Robinson Beer Whittingham Sharma Looks alright if you swap Van zyl and Finch actually.

Sheffield is a left arm quick. Sakande pulled up with a sore side at the end of the Surrey warm up game so is rested.
I’ll stick.

This tweet from Luke Wright nicely sums up the first day of the county championship from around the country. Kent have already called off day 1. Earliest start for Sussex is after lunch at Edgbaston, pending no further rain. Another pitch inspection at 3pm. The umpires spent a long time looking at the run ups for the bowlers and the edges of the square. Fingers firmly crossed, but the locals are not over-optimistic about any/much play.
