How the hell did we lose that? Conceding 60 runs between overs 34 and 40 didn't help!
Hampshire were missing three top six batsmen in Northeast, Ervine and Dawson plus death bowling specialist Kyle Abbott. What will their starting XI look like with them included?
Amla Roussow Vince (c)
Northeast Ervine Dawson McManus (wk) Berg Abbott
Crane Edwards

Brown needs to give the gloves to Burgess and concentrate on the captaincy. Wright was off the field for most of the second innings and Brown looked a little lost without him. Criminal not to bowl Briggs out who was putting pressure on with dot balls. 2 easy catches put down and 2 senseless run outs at the end of our innings. It’s the little things we need to get right.
Well batted Harry Finch.

Why he brought Rawlins on when he did, was totally bizarre Come to think of it, why was Rawlins even playing Typical muddled thinking by Sussex, calling up players who are hopelessly out of form in the seconds

That was Rawlins 5th list A match, he has yet to take a wicket and has only one wicket @161 from his 6 first class games. His batting averages are slightly better with 24 in list A and 23 in first class.
Too soon for him.

Extras Tally
Hampshire: 5
Sussex: 15
Ten extras less and Sussex might have won the game. Simply, too few runs and Sharma dropping Amla when on 35 was a crucial miss.

I have a theory that Ben Brown is too short. Last year when he was injured and Burgess took the gloves he made some spectacular stops down the leg side saving 4 leg byes regularly. His extra reach, I’m sure, was a factor. Brown is improving as a batsman and is our most consistent scorer but his keeping hasn’t improved. I’d say he is the most untidy keeper we’ve had for years. When matches are as tight as yesterday’s, small margins count and as S&F has pointed out, extras was a factor. Being captain, keeper and top order bat is too much to ask of anyone and one or more of the disciplines will suffer. I think he should stick to captaining and batting and leave the glove work to someone else.

Although you’d have to question his decision to bring Rawlins on, when we had them in a stranglehold

Having seen quite a lot of Burgess last season, I believe he is a better keeper than Brown, and should take the gloves on merit. This would leave Brown free to concentrate on his captaincy when Sussex are in the field.

It was a bit galling at the 'Cricketer's Pub' after the tight finish and loss. For a little later as the Hants team walked to their coach, a fair number of well-oiled Hampshire supporters enjoying their success in the garden cheered them as they passed. Anyway, as a mark of respect, below is their tree-enveloped Coach. Deep Fine Leg had a shot of the Kent Charabang, so perhaps, we should have a photo of all the away teams' coaches this season posted on the Forum?

It’s a sad indictment of our season so far, that it’s been all about the coaches As in team buses

I agree with joe and others about Burgess. It makes complete sense that Brown chooses not to take the gloves for certain matches and hands over to Burgess. Sussex have boasted a long-line of top-class keepers from Parks to Prior and I agree that Brown is not of their standard. He seems to lack focus and concentration at important moments and his inconsistency, once again, was on show during Saturday. One second he drops a straight-forward catch and the next takes a stunner off Wiese for Amla's wicket.
The question being: Which format should Brown keep and which ones not?
His batting has come on in leaps and bounds this season. Only Madsen has scored more runs than him in Division 2. Surely, this is more important along with his Captaincy when you have a worthy keeper replacement already in the side.
