"Sussex CCC would like to invite you to join us for our Ladies Vintage Afternooon Tea. The event will be hosted by our very own Chief Executive Zac Toumazi against the backdrop of the 2nd day of action in the LV= County Championship. The tea will be held in the dining room of our Spen Cama Pavilion and is a great way to meet fellow Sussex ladies. We look forward to seeing you all there at 3pm on September 10th. For the low price of £10, why not come along?
Please RVSP by completing the attached flyer and returning it to the Membership Office before Thursday 4th September. Alternatively you can phone 01273 827109 to complete your booking over the phone"
Why send this to the whole mailing list? I'm assuming that it has gone to everyone, regardless of whether they are a "Fellow Sussex lady". I thought the club was investing in targeted marketing, not just cheesy ideas that get churned out and fired off at random. Seriously, this is an appallingly bad waste of limited resources. Quite apart from the direction, or lack of it, and the patronising tone, the email and the attached flyer (similar wording) don't even specify who our opponents are or give any other details of the match and its significance!

I've been filtered out. You must have done something special to receive an invitation! I must have, but having received it (from sussexnewsletters@sussexcricket.co.uk) it seems to me to be wrong on so many levels: Is it actually legal to discriminate and offer attendance only to "ladies" (whatever is meant by that), as the wording implies? What is being offered? Is it admission to the whole game for the day of the tea-party, or the tea-party only? Who is it being offered to? Is the flyer going to be distributed around Hove or wider, to reach people (whetehr ladies or not) who don't noirmally go to watch cricket at Hove? Or is it only wives/partners/whatevers of Sussex members/people on the newsletter distribution list? Why isn't it marketing the cricket occasion as well? Not even a few words about "the important match against Lancashire that may well decide who stays in the First Division". Oh - and I do think a tea party is a very naff and rather retrograde image for the club to be promoting, but that's less important than the amateurishness and vagueness of the general marketing proposition, as outlined above.

Far from trying to discriminate with this idea, I think offering this for ladies might entice a few into the ground and who knows perhaps Sussex will have more support in the future?
They have the Beer Festival, if that's not aimed at males then I don't know what is. But that's alright then?
A bit of thinking outside the box by the ladies. I for one congratulate you.
hh why not bring the wife/girlfriend rather than make a fuss? A few more of you members/supporters should do the same!

Actually a Beer Festival is aimed at anyone who likes beer: I have never seen any signs that say "Come and enjoy the company of your fellow males in the beer tent". Sexism isn't funny or clever, any more than casual racism or homophobia is. None of them has any place in a civilised society. This isn't thinking outside the box: its lazy thinking or not thinking at all for the reasons I gave: who is it aimed at and how is that going to benefit Sussex long-term? None of that is clear from this poor piece of marketing, and in the meantime, its another drain on resources which, we will be told, are so limited that we have no money to attract new players or to offer attractive contracts to retain others.

I agree 100% with HHS. I thought the club were using professional marketing consultants these days! Just about every mailing I get from the club these days is an invitation to spend money on food and drink . . . PS I'm sulking because I didn't receive an invitation.

C'mon you miserable old men, support the ladies in there efforts. As someone said, bring your girlfriend(s) or wife, or both.
Money going to a good cause.
