To state the obvious, we need some quick wickets tomorrow to stop Worcestershire getting 100 runs ahead.

It looks like this game is slipping away. We just about managed to grab a third bowling point, but a lead of over 100 will be hard to overturn. Funnier things have happened, I know, but we will soon be hoping to get out with a draw, I suspect.

That nightmare scenario has occurred. Worcestershire 128 runs ahead after first innings. The best Sussex can hope for now is a draw with no Phil Salt to score a quick hundred in 74 balls. Please goatmouth me! Ollie gets another fifer which just shows how much we are relying on him for our wickets given newbie Thomason and surprisingly Wiese are wicketless. Meanwhile, spin is all at sea with no Beer wickets, Briggs not being picked, whilst part-timer Wells gains two more alongside the most economic figures. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/scorecard/ECKO44877PS: Wow, this is going well. Wells out 5th ball. Sussex 0-1 with their second innings reply.

Wells and Finch won't be holding a bat in Kidderminster again this season and still a deficit over 100. Gloomy.

When was the last time he made any runs in the CC? I had high hopes having witnessed his hundred against Pakistan a couple of years ago but he's never kicked on. Might have to get Wright out of retirement and push SVZ up the order.

It’s a shame to see, really thought he kicked on last season, but has stalled somewhat this season.
And of course, just highlights again the glaring need for us to recruit batsmen over the last two winters.

Just in case, I've taken my hat out of the cupboard and grabbed a bottle of tomato ketchup. However, I don't think I'll be eating it this week when I say that I can't see us getting out of jail in this game.

Utterly pitiful as Sussex collapse to 34-4. Finch must return to the seconds and as for Wells, another typical erratic and underperforming season. Now down to Captain Brown, yet again, to get us out of this mess.
edit: Sussex 65-4 with Brown and Evans attempting a recovery. Sorry chaps, but gaining promotion this season, even with 3 places up for grabs, is looking increasingly unlikely when our batsmen are showing such inconsistency and we rely so heavily on Robinson to get us the wickets.
A county side must work together as a consistent team and not one with the hope that an individual will come along to bale them out.

Brown and Jordan saved the top order from humiliation in the first innings. Now it's Brown and Evans in the second. Thank goodness our Captain is in such fine fettle.
Sussex: 170-4 (Brown 74, Evans 58) - 136 run partnership.
In effect, 46-4.

Sussex 89-5 at the third world dump that is Kidderminster. Finch and Evans are not up to first team standard. Excellent Goatmouth for Evans there. 👏🏻

Working at my computer all day, whilst listening alternatively to the live England v Sri Lanka and then Worcestershire v Sussex matches, as well as following the scores on the BBC website. And it's even lovely and sunny outside. What a great time to look forward to on the longest day of the year.

Yes, the only two showing any consistency this season, have been the skipper, and Robbo with the ball. That isn’t enough for a promotion chasing side. Weirdly, despite lending only minimal support with the ball, the bowlers have often dug the side out of a hole with their batting. The truth is though, we lack in depth quality in both departments.

346 for 9. We need to last at least 10 more overs to start to stretch Worcestershire a bit and give them a target of 240. Good time for young Thomason to get a 50.
