Six points from four games sound quite good whereas four points from four games sound, well, just average. That’s the position that Sussex will be in after the Somerset match unless, of course, the weather wins or Sussex take part in another exciting tied game. Whether Sussex can chalk up their second win of the T20 season may be influenced by the return to the England camp of Jofra Archer and the arrival from the Australian camp of Alex Carey. It strengthens a batting lineup that has looked, on paper at least, a good batsman short.
Somerset have started with one comfortable win and two losses. In their first game, they beat Glamorgan by eight wickets with Tom Banton and Peter Trego leading the charge in chasing down a total of 181. Against Kent, the Somerset batting folded chasing a total 165 after Roelof van der Merwe had taken three inexpensive wickets. In their third game, Babar Azam scored 95 not out setting Hampshire a target of 173, but Somerset failed to defend this as Hampshire ran out winners in the 20th over.
Recent games with Somerset in the T20 Blast have generally been close affairs with Sussex scoring decent totals. Last season, Sussex beat Somerset in the T20 Blast Semi-Finals, scoring 202, largely thanks to Luke Wright’s innings of 92, which included seven sixes. In the qualifying matches, Sussex only met Somerset once. The game at Hove was won by Somerset in the last over. Laurie Evans had scored 96 to set Somerset a target of 170, but three wickets from Rashid Khan were not enough as the runs were shared around amongst the Somerset batsmen.
A win at Taunton will put Sussex in a good position to progress in this competition. It will be yet another tough game against Division One County Championship opposition. Can Sussex bring home two points? We will see.

Batting. Looks a lot stronger with Carey in, still feel we're a batter light though, everyone's a place too high from three. While from seven down we have two eights at best and three elevens. Problems easily fixed and all we'd lose is a half decent sixth bowler, to be replaced by untested sixth and seventh bowlers of the same trade. Big issue already highlighted three games in against Surrey.

I thought Carey was not going to be available until next Friday having to leave the country for visa purposes. So this really is a major plus.

That looked from my armchair as though it was a very good victory. We set a decent total - good to see Alex Carey start with a 70-odd - and defended it well. It's never easy when the openers lay such a solid foundation, but we took wickets when it mattered. Back in the top three with the top team coming our way next Friday.

What we’ve been crying out for, a hard hitting top order bat, comes in and does the business. Is he available for the CC? Good bowling effort to defend the score. 6 points from 4 games.
GOSBTS!

Bloody amazing result. I was following the game on my mobile. I still can't believe it. Somerset 96-1 and cruising to victory; then 152-2 and still cruising it; all of sudden the team crashed off the rails and ended up with scrumpy all over their face. One of the most extraordinary Sussex victories I can remember for a long time. As for Alex Carey? Whoopie with Big Ben bells on it. What a signing!!! www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/scorecard/ECKO45181

Finally... an international batsman with class and huge talent... what we have needed all season instead of keep signing bloody bowlers all the time! Hope he can play the remaining championship games too or if not then be our overseas player next year!

Excellent highlights package. Somerset using moving cameras, as opposed to the Hove fixed cameras. Good to be able to watch some outfield action.

They were always behind and far from cruising thanks to Banton being too slow. A great performance but not an extraordinary turnaround. What a difference a Carey makes. Weakness addressed, to an extent. Could be stronger still but they don't know it. Rawlins is even a better wicket taker than Briggs and he can't be more expensive.

ls, At the end of 10 overs Somerset were cruising at 85/0 or 8.5 runs an over, not far from the 9.25 an over needed. The side required 100 runs from 60 balls, easily viable from a strong batting line-up. Therefore, to end up 13 runs short and 5 wickets down is quite a turn-a-round, in my view. Meanwhile, Banton was out for 51 off 45 balls in the 12th over which included six 4s and one 6. I would hardly call that slow batting. www.espncricinfo.com/series/8053/commentary/1167161/somerset-vs-sussex-south-group-vitality-blast

He hit 30 off 7 balls so he hit the other 21 off 38.
