No surprise that Sussex have gone for Salisbury and Kirtley as coaches.
Cheapest and safest with the uncertainty over next season. Plus 200% Sussex.

So Ian Salisbury to take the lead in the CC and 50 over and James Kirtley in the T20.
Bit of a cost cutting approach but I’m not too unhappy with this.

First time I've heard Salisbury's name mentioned in ages about anything. What's he been doing for the last 25 years? Great news about Greenfield. He was wasted as a director of performance so hopefully this new role as performance director is right up his pathway. I guess he isn't the first person on Earth to earn 80 grand a week for doing f**k all.

Ian has been at Hove for at least the last two summers coaching.

Neither choice fills me with much excitement or hope. They are not exactly dynamic or inspiring.
Choosing Ian Salisbury as Head Coach for the Championship and 50 over formats is odd, like mixing marmite with raspberry jam on your buttered toast.
His coaching Wiki reads like a who's who of how not to make it. He became Chris Adams No.2 at Surrey in 2012 and was promptly sacked alongside Adams the following year. Then there was a 4 year gap until Salisbury was appointed Head Coach for the England Physical Disability Cricket team. Then, after a short spell there, he departed and turned to being a part-time spinning coach.
Yet, we are talking now about being a Head Coach of a Sussex side that are scraping the Championship barrel and are fairing only a little better in the 50 over. What exactly will Salisbury's "past record" bring to the party?
I feel James Kirtley is a better appointment given his past Sussex success as a player has a chance of influencing the T20 side to better things.
Certainly, more inspired than promoting Jason Swift, but that's about all one can say. When there is so much uncertainty around due to Covid, choosing the safest and cheapest options, while discounting the inspiring ones, is perhaps the norm now.

Ian Salisbury was the No.2 under Adams at Surrey, while under Adams 10 year captaincy at Sussex, Kirtley won 3 Championship Trophies, 1 Friends Provident Trophy and 1 Pro-40 National League title.
Now, move away from this and look at today's situation. Ian Salisbury and James Kirtley have been appointed joint Head Coaches at Sussex and Chris Adams is the Head cricket Coach at Seaford College school after trying, very hard, for many years, to gain a coaching role at the Club. What does that say about Adams? What does that say about his relationship with Sussex CCC?
So, I will now ask Ian Salisbury and James Kirtley, who both know Adams very well, and who have both worked alongside him... and I will ask gently and kindly...
For F*CKS SAKE offer Chris Adams the desperately needed role of batting coach at the club and DO NOT allow Keith Greenfield to stop you.
(Thank you - the broadcast is now over)

Well Ash, I've heard coaches get half what Emu breeders get and I'm on 160,000 grand a week, so yeah, sounds about right. Although I have had to take a 2% pay cut because of this pesky flu thing.
Thanks Kevin. Leg spinning coach I presume? Who's he been coaching? Anyway, give them a go, you never know - that rhymed and I wasn't even trying. Good luck to them. I too am a little perplexed at the roles though - one-day & T20 together I would have thought.
The first thing the new coach should do is install a new man as captain. Somebody more aggressive, attacking and definitely not a keeper.

Ian Salisbury is "immensely proud, honoured and humbled to be given this opportunity at the club." I am sure you are and probably are still pinching yourself. What an extraordinary break.

Ian Salisbury and James Kirtley are interviewed by BBC Radio Sussex. Interestingly, James will be Ian's assistant for the Championship and 50 over and vice-a-versa for the T20. It sounds as if both are still pinching themselves after their recent appointments. www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p08xd7cg
