Would you rather it messed it with the scheduling and we get £1.3 million or lose the money and have a normal cricket season?
Unfortunately, it is not financially possible to have a normal cricket season. There is not enough revenue coming in for county
cricket to survive and hence the vital need for the ECB's purse strings.
So, where can the Board's money come from for 18 counties to survive? The T20 is not sufficient and why the 100. That is the
reality however much the tournament may upset the cricket season.
If not, do you want 12 counties or 18? Sussex will certainly not be one of the final 12. Therefore, sacrificing our club for having
a normal cricket summer makes no sense? To repeat, a broader T20 competition, imho, will not bring in the sufficient revenue
required.
If you wish to maintain 18 counties and a vibrant two division Championship with 14 matches per team, per season, the 100 is
the trade-off, however inconvenient it may be.

You make good points but the Hundred kills off my interest in a season prematurely and turns my attention (and expenditure) to football (league and non-league). It’s been a quick change as I never used to bother about football much until umpires had pulled up stumps for the season. Looking forward to a non-league football game this weekend. Will I go to the T20 finals if we make it? Nope, not this time. I’ll be footballing. |

The Hundred is loss making though unless of course you take the ECB line and ignore paying the counties off to host it, so it isn't producing enough revenue for the game either. Will they even get half the investment they are looking for? The chat about it becoming a T20 tournament confirms the format is a dud.
On other posts I do agree on Mills being a good skipper from the evidence this season. I'm not happy that Archer hasn't played a game under Farbrace but gets trotted out for this crap. No doubt he will be made unavailable for the rest of the season to manage his work load.

Again im not a huge lover of the hundred but i see its necessity the rage against it doesnt particularly help. It needs careful negotiation on its future format and preserving the longevity of the counties. It has to be give and take on both sides.

If the Hundred was really the great asset that could be milked indefinitely to sustain county cricket then why is the ECB so keen to sell its stake? And why are most of the top Indian, Aussie and South African players swerving it to compete in Major League Cricket (clue: the Yanks are paying more).
Something has obviously gone wrong when so many cricket fans have been so alienated. Cricket doesn’t have the luxury of a big enough support base to divide it in this way. Hopefully there is a way to repair it and unify supporters. There’s certainly a financial incentive to do so. As Therea says, there would have to be compromise all round.

I have a feeling that many protest but go along for the spectacle anyway or are dragged to it by their children. I’ve watched quite a few games now and the attendances are way up on T20 or ODC crowds (baring Edgbaston on finals day) There were over 12,000 recently for one of the women’s games, that’s twice the capacity of Hove.

I’ve no idea which teams are winning the Hundred . I couldn’t name all 8 (or is it 10) teams? I’ve no idea who won last year or the year before. Anyway, it’s the football season now. Cricket’s season is now May to July. |

I’d say there are plenty in the 100 crowds that aren’t real cricket fans, in fact the vast majority are not real cricket fans at a guess. |

The 100 has been incredibly divisive. Was that the ECB’s intention? Probably not, but I’d reckon it was meant to be the first phase in culling or marginalising the non-hosting counties. And for that reason I am totally against it and want it binned. |

I’d say there are plenty in the 100 crowds that aren’t real cricket fans, in fact the vast majority are not real cricket fans at a guess. Depends on what you define as cricket. The 100 is a game of cricket and as such the people who pack out the grounds are watching cricket and enjoying it. I think some people feel that if they oppose it and pretend they’ve no interest in it they are more of a cricket fan than those who do watch it. As I said before, it’s here and it’s happening so why not enjoy it for what it is. |

Cricket’s season is now May to July. Here are some clues: three of the teams are named after a city, two after a region, one after a country, another after a cricket ground and the final one after a river. It was all carefully thought through. |
