Micky Mouse cricket competitions like the Hundred produce Micky Mouse standard cricketers. Michael Vaughan @michaelvaughan · 14h 5 County teams bowled out for under 150 today !!!! It’s fine saying we need more 4 day cricket but we have to play on better pitches to prepare Test match standard players .. It’s not good for Bowlers or Batters .. Pitches need to be better . Is the T20 a Mickey Mouse competition? No because it is a format played across the world unlike the hundred.

Is the T20 a Mickey Mouse competition? No because it is a format played across the world unlike the hundred. But you are blaming "MM comps" for the decline in red ball standards, aren't you? I don't believe red ball standards have suddenly fallen since The Hundred was played. They've probably declined over the years as a result of top players' year round involvement in T20 cricket. That's why I thought you were calling T20 a MM comp.

I cannot remember ever seeing over 100 wickets falling in a single day across seven CC matches which only further highlights the decline in the quality of batsmen in county cricket.

I agree, but you can't blame The Hundred. If any comp is to blame, it's T20, and there's no way that's going to decline. Cricket is evolving, and we're living through that evolution. Whether one likes it or not is up to the individual. In terms of audiences, T20 is far more popular than red ball cricket, so that's the 'direction of travel' - to use the latest cliche.

D Telegraph reporting that the Hundred sale is in trouble. The rumoured Indian buyers apparently don’t believe the (unrealistic) forecast ECB £ returns and don’t like the counties retaining their stakes. Who’d have thought it eh…..
Fingers crossed that this is true and the whole competition collapses.
It might just be worth the idiot ECB actually trying to promote the successful T20 blast.

I was a little more invested last night in the Southern Brave with 4 Sussex players in the team, i just hate the graphics and the scoreboard they use. I find myself wanting to like it but just cant.

Totally agree.I refuse to buy a bigger tele just for the 💯. Positives from last night's game were:- As Archer was allowed to play, then we should see him play v Lancs in our T20 quarter. Coles bowls 1st over. Hope Mills was watching this useful tactic. Hughes continues to show us how good a player he is.

Hail Hughes! I am amazed the 100 sides weren't queuing up to sign him. No doubt Tymal told his Brave mates. They quickly sign Hughsy up and hey presto, in his first game, he whacks 45 runs off 30 balls and sets up a first wicket partnership of 95 with Vince, leading to one of the easiest wins imagined. What with Archer now playing in the team, I could easily see the Southern Brave winning the 100 tournament for the second time. I am definitely watching them this season. The Brave has a helluva strong side and as lab1 points out, there are 4 Sussex players involved and also... 2 ex-Sussex cricketers. GO THE BRAVE! www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/scorecard/e-220518

I’ll be watching The Brave too, feel there’s a vested interest and like to see Sussex players doing well. I’m OK with the graphics, got used to them now. The only thing I’d say is that it could so easily have been a T20 format and generated the same interest if advertised properly and kept as a double header with the women’s games.

The Southern Brave are on fire and Captain James Vince is playing like Captain Invincible. His 90* scored off just 47 balls on Saturday was a batting masterclass of the short format. Even a 92 runfest from Duckett wasn't enough for the Birmingham Phoenix as they lost by 32 runs. Vince's score was his best in the Hundred, improving on the 71 off 41 balls he made against Welsh Fire in August 2022. The Brave skipper is the tournament's leading run-scorer with 185 in four innings at an average of 61.66 and a strike rate of 158.11. I am really enjoying supporting the Brave, especially when one of the standout players is Sussex's Tymal Mills who, when injury-free, must be one of the world's top three best fast bowlers in the T20 and now 100 ball formats. The video below shows what an excellent tactician and thinker Mills is. He does his prep, he knows what each ball is going to be. No wonder one of the commentators describes him as "an artiste at work." www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/videos/c7200ge92ydoThe BIG game for the Brave is coming up on Thursday when Vince and his team play the table co-leader, The Oval Invincibles, in South London. Not to be missed. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/mens-england-the-hundred/tableMeanwhile, Isa Guha carries out a fine interview with Jof and Tymal about the keys to top fast bowling. Leaving aside that it's so good to see Archer back to his best and looking so relaxed, Mill's confidence has soared since being made Captain of Sussex T20. He is, perhaps, one of the best club captain's for quite awhile after seizing the leadership opportunity. Leading the side to a home T20 QF is testament to this, especially when the format had been written off by supporters after the previous and disastrous captaincy from Ravi Bopara. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/videos/c3g0rr8d448o

But, until it stops messing with the fixture scheduling of the County Championship, T20, 50 over and International test matches then you can keeping. Not so sure Mills is a good Captain. Decent bowler though that has to be hidden in the field.

I would definitely rather it didn’t mess with the schedule but it’s here and it’s happening so I’ll watch it.

I’d rather have a normal season and be able to think again about how best to maximise revenue from T20 without undermining the county structure. I’m pleased that Wicked is appreciating it so much but as usual, the 100 is completely passing me by.
