I was at the ground yesterday and watched the whole game. I concur with what other posters say, but I do have several points. It was an amazing match where Sussex almost snatched defeat from the jaws of victory which brought back memories of that T20 game a few years ago.
First, the tickets were £20 each. That's fine. One accepts you are watching a 2nd XI team because the top players are at The 100. But where were our seamers? Apart from Sarro where was Crocombe and Hunt, for example? Are they injured like Atkins? You should put out your strongest side, whatever the situation.
Second, that all important and critical 49th over of the Middlesex innings. Surely, you give it to one of your more experienced bowlers, not to a 16 year-old. Dan Ibrahim is a very talented all-rounder, a really promising player for us, but to heap all that pressure on someone so young. No surprise he was smashed to all parts of the ground and bowled three wides to boot. What has that done to his vulnerable 16-year-old confidence? Surely, Travis Head would have been a better choice?
Thank God for the highly experienced Wiese who saved the day in the final over. We came so close to a humiliating loss after a superb batting performance.

The worry for me is the fitness/injury situation of our fast bowling youth. I have to guess that Crocombe and Hunt didn't play yesterday because of injury issues. Can Atkins, Hunt, Crocombe, Sarro, Ibrahim keep injury free when there is so much red and white ball cricket? The facts so far would suggest not.

Yet another exciting game for Sussex in this competition. It was to see us squeak home. It’s a shame that the ECB see this competition as being of little or no value even though England are World Champions. I thoroughly enjoy 50 over games. There’s a part of me that is hoping that cricket splits between short and longer forms even if 50 over and 4-day games are played by at a far lower standard due to money by players who can go off and play T20/T16.66/T10 as well as T5, T2 or whatever. Interesting thought. My view is that the ECB is gradually maneuvering the structure to a position where there are only 8-10 1st class counties. This will concentrate the best players at the top of the pyramid, raise the overall standard, and enhance our test match capabilities. It will also allow the 1st class counties to be converted into cities for the purpose of white ball tournaments. Having fewer teams in the top tier would make the various competitions shorter and enable the fixture list to be managed more easily. I'm not saying this is what I want. It's just my hunch as to the way things are moving. I can't see cricket's problems being readily solved under the current structure. I did say it was ‘a part of me’. I guess I’m facing up to a few things: 1) the number of overseas stars are diminishing in County Cricket as they are too busy 2) the likes of Archer, Jordan and Robinson (from this season) rarely play for the County I support due to a) the intense England programme b) the riches to be earned from franchise cricket 3) I generally prefer 50-over and 4-day cricket If I have to watch a lower standard, which has already happened, of course, so be it. It’s better than nothing and, to be honest, I’ve enjoyed this season so far without having a clue who is doing what in The Hundred.

Derbyshire, Durham, Essex, Gloucestershire, Kent, Leicestershire, Northants, Somerset, Sussex and Worcestershire need to wake up and realise that all the other eight counties are interested are themselves. They need to resist these moves which are nothing to do with improving the county game and all to do with lining their own pockets.

I fear the ECB may get their way in the end, just as they bribed the smaller counties into accepting The Hundred. Put bluntly, they are capable of starving these counties of money, if they resist the ECB's wishes.

Dirty cash. The earth spins on its axels. Or whatever.
You should watch it Phil, very entertaining. Got our first 200 last night.
Big game tonight. My team, the Moveoners are facing their toughest test yet at the Historicals.
Very well done young Sussex and young Haines in particular.

A lower standard of 4-day cricket? That can’t be healthy for the rest side, same as the degraded RLODC will not be good for the ODI side.
