We now go into the Blast.
We’ll have Shadab Khan and McAndrew as O/S. Bopara, Mills and Garton will play but who will make up the 11? Rawlins appears to be awol but will play if here. It’s the batting which looks light.

The 2's have just bought up 300 vs Middlesex. Bopara with a century.

Maybe Haines will be given an opportunity in the T20 this year. Clark and Coles are other options. It’s make or break for Ward this season I feel.

One of the staff mentioned that Rawlins is having some issues and is currently back in Bermuda. Wasn’t sure when he may be back.

Top keeper batsmen too! Shadab clipped his first ball for 6 today. Looked complete class. Bopara also looked in great form. I also witnessed young Coles innings at Hove. He is a huge talent, times the ball beautifully now.

Can you explain why he should play for Sussex on loan at the expense of developing a Sussex player? I don't get it.But would be interested in your opinion.

I don't get it.But would be interested in your opinion. Really good questions. Farbrace thinks he’s one of the best keepers in the country and I guess he should know having worked with him over the last few years. Burgess ran a Masterclass for the cricket academy I run during the winter and I have to say he’s a really great guy, and he strikes a very hard ball. I think his limited overs batting is on the up. He may also be on our radar for a more permanent move but I’m only guessing that as his contract is up at warwicks this year I think . I think Alsop would be a make shift keeper for t20 and you need a specialist ideally, especially standing up to fast leg spin etc from Khan. It’s a tricky one but having met him and seen him close up I’m all in favour. Carter and Tear will both have further opportunities in the 50 over format but I’m confident that the experience of Burgess gives us a better chance to go further in t20 cricket and he will give it his all.

If we wanted a decent bat who can keep wicket we should have kept Harry Finch!

183/8 after 20
Bopara 88*
Decent total, gives us something to defend.

Thank goodness our captain is in a rich vein of form. A competitive score. Down to our bowlers now.

Outstanding innings from Bopara. He struggled last season to consistently reach the high standards we have come to expect. Good to see he is back to his best.
The worry is, Orr and Bopara aside there wasn't a lot of positives from the other batters. Alsop, I am confident will come good. Even though it is only the first game, I am not sure if the aforementioned don't deliver who else will step up and get the necessary runs.
Over to our bowlers, who unlike in the Championship look our stronger suit in this format.

Absolute rubbish from Hudson-Prentice. 45 from 2 overs! Some good pressure being built up then given away by some rather ordinary bowling from Fynn H-P.

Nasty collision earlier between McAndrew and Khan. Khan still off the field which means Bopara has to find 4 overs from somewhere.
