Where are Robinson, Seales and Pujara? Surely you weren’t expecting Robinson, Seales and Pujara to play! If available and fit, yes. How else do they get some overs bowled/faced out in the middle before the Northants game.

So it looks Carter v Clark for the final batting spot.
How do they compare?
Carter 1,643 runs @ 36 HS 185 1 100 13 50s Clark 1,773 @ 28 HS 138 2 100 12 50s
For me it's not a difficult decision as one stands out head and shoulders above the other.

It has to be Clark, Carter doesnt have the technique to open. Clark is a better prospect in my opinion than Carter a far more natural player but that doesnt always mean you are going to succeed. Good problems to have though. Foreman and Ibrahim im guessing will have to impress in the 2s like Coles did to force their way in.

Have to agree with Andy on this one, can’t compare stats of an opener against a lower order batter. How many would Carter have got opening? I still rate Ollie Carter though, he’s a good gutsy cricketer.

For the first game its one from Ari, Crocombe and Hunt and theyve all looked ok so far.
Edit - Might have to add Lamb to that one. All of a sudden you have 3 backup seamers, how many do you need?

You can usually tell with Clark, that he is ‘ready’ to get out. He’ll get flustered, have a couple of near misses then nick one to the keeper. He’ll look dumbfounded as he walks back to the pavilion, but the wicket was coming. Until he resolves that mental issue, he will never make consistent big runs. If he can resolve it, there’s a lot to like about his batting (and fielding). Carter is a strong character, but , ok, maybe hid technique doesn’t stand up to the new ball. Neither of them are great options to open.

Haines form has dropped off but he is class and will come good again . Similar with alsop. He was disappointing last season by his own admission . He can score big at div two level though . Im confident both will be gun batsmen this season

Jofra & Ollie looked sharp bowling in the nets today. Jofra also did some batting.

I don't think either Clark or Carter should be opening. The senior players (Haines, Pujara and Alsop) need to step up and take responsibility and show why they paid the big bucks rather than taking the easy option and shoving a youngster in the wrong batting position. They need show some gohones. After today's bowling performance you may play both Carter and Clark and leave out Carson.

Maybe Alsop as he isnt a 3 either really but your still exposing Carter. Clark did ok yesterday against a strong attack, he deserves a run at the top of the order. Carson is the obvious worry his form hasnt been good and they may decide to go with Coles as the spinner for the first few games and give Jack the 2nd XI games to build some confidence back. Especially if Robbo is going to be available the 4 seamers we have should do enough. Clark Haines Alsop Pujara Coles Carter Simpson FHP Robinson Seales Karvelas/Hunt Cant decide btween the bottom 2, i'd probably go Hunt for the left arm and his end of season form but either way that looks strong and some good players left out.
