The ECB in 2019 admitted the one day cup will be relegated to a “development competition” from 2020 onwards.
That’s not the same as “supposed to be” a development competition.
I think there are some merits in giving fringe players opportunities but if Leics want to win it and are playing (and funding) their strongest team, good luck to them. They deserve to win it.
enjoy the successes Foxes Fan, they don’t come around often (unless you are Surrey).

This is currently a hard watch. Clarke first 5 balls have gone for 22. We won the toss; and our bowling has been poor. What are we learning from this? I agree with a previous comment regarding Farbrace's tactics in this Comp. The three rested players for our recent travels need to turn up; and Alsop hopefully will get runs. Apologies for going on about this but Simpson should be fielding, not playing as a keeper. He can then give good advice and guidance to either Tear or Carter. Clarke should also have continued as Captain.

It’s just muddled thinking by Farbrace.

It’s just muddled thinking by Farbrace. I just hope that this muddled thinking does not have an impact on our red ball campaign.

There’s one element that doesn’t often get mentioned. Cricket is not the most lucrative or secure profession except for the very elite. So a lot of talented players give up at an early age if they haven’t made the progress they’d hoped for. Giving them opportunities in this competition is a vote of confidence that they have a pathway into the first team.
However if a county like Leics takes a different view that’s up to them. They have a history of having their best young players poached (including Luke Wright). So I can understand why winning a competition helps with player retention. I’ll be content if they win it again this year.

Lenham well and truly thrown under the bus by Simpson. Ibrahim under bowled.
Agree with Sponge, not an easy watch. A good batting display by Leicestershire or poor bowling by Sussex? Probably a combination of the two.
A lesson in how the 50 over format is so different to T20 in that you have more time to construct and build a total.
The naivety of the two commentators in criticising the two very experienced Leicestershire overseas for 'chewing up' deliveries early on given they had a sound base and wickets in hand to build on. 146 runs 18.1 overs later at over 8 runs per over, both with strike rates comfortably over 100 tells its own story.
Hopefully, the Sussex batters have taken note. You can't win the game in the first twenty overs chasing a big total, but a gung ho reckless approach can certainly lose it.
Hudson-Prentice's stand out bowling aside and a respectable spell from Carson there has been nothing else to note from a Sussex perspective in the field.
Can any of our batters on a good wicket with a fast outfield and short boundary on one side step up? Batting thus far in the competition would suggest otherwise.

Another observation, only 2 leg byes against Simpson who has shown the importance of a good wicketkeeper.

Still in with a shout, but someone will need to accelerate the run rate. I feel we may have missed a trick with the batting order. Given our good start, Alsop should have come in at the fall of the first wicket.

Why does Hudson Prentice bat above Simpson?

Why does Hudson Prentice bat above Simpson? Good question to which there is no sensible answer. Required rate at over 10 now, someone needs to put their foot down…

Start the Car 🚗.
A much better batting display, but a side being asked to chase down 364 who have struggled to get 200 in their previous four matches was always going to be a tall order.
Quite simply, we haven't got the power or the depth. Hudson-Prentice isn't a number four or five, expecting Simpson to go at tens from the outset is unrealistic and we messed up by not sending Alsop in at the fall of the first wicket.
The one primary difference today was our bowling was not at the level it has been in the previous games. Not helped by some of Simpson's bowling changes.
Going back to Alsop, I am no Umpire, but how was he not given out for obstructing the field? If that had been the other way around and a Leicestershire player had done that I would have been fuming.

Good effort; but alas not quite enough. Should be enough in that game for more Farbrace clap trap.

I was very nearly left with egg on my face!!
Not just another valiant effort, but an outstanding one and a case of very much what might have been.
Got a lot closer than I ever expected after the fall of the fourth wicket.
Haines and Simpson quite brilliant with good support from Clark after his early let off.
Simpson is to Leicestershire, what Carlson is to Sussex.
