I don't want to sound distasteful but with another injury to his hamstring which they think could be linked to his back problems and at the age of 33, it makes you wonder how much longer he intends to carry on playing. I had a sneaky feeling he might retire from tests after the next Ashes but now I wonder if it might be sooner.

braggfan, Talk about present mixed fortunes: Johnson v Clarke. One has sympathy for the Australian captain. Some sportsmen are plagued with injury throughout their careers and others sail through with barely a tweak. Michael Atherton comes to mind when Clarke is discussed. Both suffered from degenerative back problems - both captained their International sides - and both were batsmen. One is amazed how they succeeded to the highest levels with such on-going injuries. sports.ndtv.com/cricket/news/233027-michael-clarke-injures-hamstring-in-odi-match-against-south-africa

It is amazing how they succeed. I struggle to get milk out the fridge or put my socks on when my back is playing up, let alone play cricket, let alone at the highest level.
