The Provisional 30 man squad has been announced - although if players become injured or unwell they may be replaced from outside this list. Good to see Luke Wright and Chris Jordan are on it, and Tredders too.

Never undersood the point of the 30 man squad, unless it's simply to reassure the likes of Wright, Kieswetter, Bairstow, Vince, Patel, Plunkett etc. that they haven't been totally forgotten, even though everyone knows they will not make the cut when the final 15 is announced.

Maybe the competition rules require each country to nominate a 30 man squad by a certain date? Just guessing!

You'd guess the XI England have put out in the final ODI v Sri Lanka today is close to the first choice XI they hope to play in the world cup, except that Broad and Anderson will come in for Gurney and Jordan.
Tough on Jordan and also on the admirable Bopara, and I guess Hales needs some runs to prevent Bell coming back in.

Bopara has been the best one-day player England have had for many years - far more versatile than Morgan, more incisive and undoubtedly more intelligent; the captain England should have had. Jordan has many failings, but he does at least have talent to back up his enthusiasm and his fantastic catching; Gurney, alas, has neither. Hales needs runs, a brain and fielding skills. He may get the runs, he's a strong lad and has good eyesight, but the rest is far beyond him and always will be.

Yes, you are. Kieswetter has been replaced by Billings, following his own withdrawal from that list.

Because he has been the first choice wicketkeeper for the One Day squad, and because either he didn't let on about how serious his injury was, or because nobody thought to check up on it. You choose: conspiracy or cock-up?

Does anyone know when the selection committee meeting today is due to release its statement ie Cook in or out? Don't know about the timing, but here's a prediction: 1. Cook will advise the ECB that he wants to stand down. 2. Morgan will be appointed captain. - for now. 3. Root will be appointed vice-captain. You can berate me when I'm proved wrong!

I'm inclined to agree with you, flashblade, that would be my reading of the tealeaves as well.
