Fred,
I was told by several supporters that Jimmy's contract ended in February and that a decision had to be made after Christmas whether to renew or terminate it. So, one suspects the final decision was probably made in January which means around 2/3 months ago which is a 'fair few months'.
Needless to say, Sussex are now two fast bowlers short, but with the way Garton is progressing, one could see him being given the 1st XI ball this season. Although, the injury curse seems still upon us, as Chris Nash hobbled off the pitch yesterday with a brace around his lower leg. One supporter told me the last time he had seen such a splint was around his son's leg, and his problem was an achilles.
God forbid, such a fate has befallen Nash.

Good luck to Anyon. This isn't that unusual, to be honest. I know of several players in the last couple of years who have left counties without an announcement, and it has invariably been the player who put an x in the box marked 'no publicity'.I'm sure Sussex would have have wanted to thank him publicly for his service, and I'm equally certain the lack of such a tribute can only have been at the player's request. Perhaps he ticked the box "no publicity until Steve Hollis leaks the news" Perhaps Steve Hollis ticked the box no publicity when he wrote the article.

But it's part of a pattern of non-disclosure isn't it, Fred?
Amjad Khan, Hamilton-Brown, Prior, Anyon...official announcements several months after the decisions had been taken in every case.
I'm sure you are right and wrangling over insurance claims takes precedence over transparency with members and supporters - although I don't see why an insurance claim has to be settled before it is announced that a player has retired due to injury.
By the way, s&f, in addition to trumping the club website, Cricinfo, the BBC and ECB websites and a spate of local news outlets from the Eastbourne Herald to Juice Brighton, did you also scoop the IC?
Since their patron saint Robinson is no longer around to feed them titbits of gossip, they no longer seem to have a clue what's going on!

Bm, Thank you for your kind comment, although it was Steve Hollis who gained the scoop over a month ago. Re: The IC, you wrote on another thread: "Can I ask again that we please ignore these people and leave them to their funny handshakes..." So, why keep referring to them? Shouldn't you listen to your own advice? The IC have their MB, we have ours. Everyone is happy.

The Sussex coaching staff, players and hierarchy line-up for their start of season interviews. First, Mark Davis and Luke Wright and now the club's CEO. Adrian Harms, who is the present No.1 County interviewer, chats to Zac Toumazi whose confidence in-front of the camera increases each year. Zac talks about the recent disappointing financial accounts and the club's future. Also, news of the planting of a willow tree in memory of Matt Hobden in-front of the main gate entrance on Sunday, April 17th - the opening day of the home Essex Championship match. www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPoYekPIEeY

Latest Sussex News - the Present Ups & Downs ______________________________________________________________
The Sussex CCC injury curse is back with a vengeance as the walking wounded return to our top ranked players. First, Chris Nash is on crutches with bruising to his foot - 'allegedly' caused by a warm-up football game before the recent friendly. While, the coaching staff have said Nash should be ok for the home Essex match, 'Evening Argus' reporter, Steve Hollis, reckons this could be a long shot. Even worse, our Captain Luke, is still suffering from a back "niggle" after straining it from carrying one of his children and to add to his woe, Luke is off to see a specialist today about a long-term wrist problem. Some good news now and former Club President and legendary player Jim Parks has an interview published in 'Cricinfo'. Hopefully, this is a positive sign that Jim has recovered from his nasty fall last year when he fell off a ladder whilst pruning a garden hedge. Two Sussex Living Legends Go Out to Bat in 1956There are some marvellous quotes from him including, "Godfrey Evans was the absolute best keeper I ever saw. He could even stand up to Alec Bedser on a wet wicket." Matt Prior eat your pants. www.espncricinfo.com/magazine/content/story/994025.htmlTalking of Prior, he along with Michael Yardy and former Coach, Mark Robinson, have been added to the growing list of club Vice-Presidents. Last year Murray Goodwin and Tony Buss were included. VPs are little more than for show as members are not expected to do anything for the club. The appointment is more a way of thanking such people for their past club-related endeavours. For example, Yorkshire CCC have several hundred VPs. Meanwhile, here is a belated 2016 team photo for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.'

11 in black, 19 in white. That's wrong. I know where you can find some money for player budget.

The county cricket predictions for 2016 continue as 'All Out Cricket Magazine' come to the Mystic Meg party and guess where they place Sussex CCC at the end of September? Top, of course! Favourites to bounce back from Division Two, returning to the top flight at the first time of asking isn’t always straightforward, and 2016 is a huge year for Sussex. They’ll need their bowling attack to step up. Aside from Steve Magoffin and Olly Robinson, no Sussex bowler got past 30 wickets in 2015, and for an attack that – on paper – looks menacing, that’s not good enough. Danny Briggs, who was playing for England not two years ago, might be another English bowler whose career is rejuvenated by a move. How Sussex would love that. The batting will be expected to provide big returns in 2016. Luke Wright and Ben Brown both scored 1,000 runs last season and the arrival of Ross Taylor could be massive.www.alloutcricket.com/cricket/county-cricket-previewwww.alloutcricket.com/cricket/features/sussexMeanwhile, to bring us down to earth, here are highlights of Day 2 at Wantage Road. www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMdqCgaIhU0&feature=youtu.be

Sussex CCC Players in the Twittersphere
_ ___________________________________________________A new season begins and the Sussex players’ Twitter accounts have roared into overtime in recent days. One could easily do a weekly round-up that stretches over 1,000 words. First off is Luke Wright who admits that his back “niggle” is actually a bulging disc. Does this sound worse than it really is? Thank you for all the good luck messages to the @sussexccc team. Sadly I am out with bulging disc in my back and not fit for this match. All today’s talk is the shock announcement of James Taylor’s forced retirement from cricket due to a severe heart condition. Here is an example from Sussex CCC. We are very saddened to hear that @jamestaylor20 has been forced to retire from the game of cricket early #GOSBTSTaylor tweets: Safe to say this has been the toughest week of my life! My world is upside down. But I'm here to stay and I'm battling on! #lifestooshort On the postive side, here is a delightful picture posted by the club’s CEO. 6 year old George Garton sitting on our head coach, Mark Davis's lap in 2003. Who would have thought? #sussexfamilyAnother Taylor, Ross, writes about his delight at receiving his Sussex cap: No 726 Proud to receive my @sussexccc cap from skipper @lukewright204 today. #726Meanwhile, the ICC reminds us of the fizzy mouth-watering prospect of a certain young seamer who hails from Bangladesh and who will be coming to Hove in a few months. #Howzstat - Which bowlers had the best strike-rates in the #WT20?Surprisingly, there have been no tweets from our new Vice-Captain since late February but Craig Cachopa reminds supporters that he shares his Hove digs with Harry Finch. Big congrats to my housemate @hfinch72 on his maiden FC ton today! First of many! @sussexcccClub marketing manager, Tom Rose, who has been highlighted on this blog various times is running in the Brighton Marathon this Sunday and is raising money for charity. I'm up to £285 now.6 days until Marathon. If you still want to donate you can by TEXT - TRCZ53 then £5 or too 70070Brighton Juice is now a major local media outlet and below are various links to recent interviews with Sussex players and their coach. www.juicebrighton.com/news/brighton-sport/1945315/wright-praises-teammates-pre-season-work-ethic/www.juicebrighton.com/news/brighton-sport/1940929/wright-captaincy-brings-different-vibe---joyce/www.juicebrighton.com/news/brighton-sport/1944309/davis-happy-with-sussex-strength-in-depth/Meanwhile, Lewis Hatchett who last year had several fracas with cars offers us an insight into what Sussex players do when faced with a rain delay. Guess what? i-phone games. Rain and this lot are playing each other at Words with Friends
It's a tough life county cricket!

I know money is 'supposedly' tight at Sussex but do they really need to get the stitching on their caps done at the local primary school?
Ahhh, that picture of GG and MD, ahhh. We really are a family club. Tell me, did GG's father work at Sussex?
P.S. I hope those layabouts were put through their paces on the indoors when the day was called off. Sounds like some close catching drills are required - and some stern words. My first words would be: 'Unless your you-tubing catches put your *** phones down'.

Agree about the phones - these youngsters are like sheep - non communicative sheep, at that. Heard today that Ronald Koeman (?sp) is introducing communication lessons to the Southampton squad! It beggars belief.
