Not to be for Jofra Archer again. The Hobart Hurricanes lost in the Final last season and now the semi-finals this year. Luke Wright alongside Kevin Pietersen must feel a bit sick. One more year for the Melbourne Stars and they might both have played in this year's Final. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricketPS: Congrats to the Renegades after an all-Melbourne Final.

Great stuff from Luke Wells, but obvious question: How does the standard of the 'Victorian Premier Cricket Competition' compare to the English County Championship Division 2?

I would probably compare the top flight teams to our county 2nd XI. Of course there are some stand-out players in both but for Luke to break the club record is a huge achievement.

How did I miss this? (News release from late November) Excuse me for being "sexy", but this is exciting however late the information. 'Sir' Rod Stewart is playing at the Hove County Ground on July 12th. If tickets are as expensive as the Elton John farewell tour, then I won't be sailing to the concert, but if cheaper and more realistic, tonight's the night. Anything The Amex do, we can do better! Meanwhile, the Hove County Ground name remains the "1st Central" as Haywards Heath car insurance company re-signs their Sussex CCC contract and holds on to the ground naming rights. sussexcricket.co.uk/news/1st-central-announces-sussex-cricket-sponsorship-renewalsussexcricket.co.uk/rod-stewart

Jofra Archer is rapidly closing in on the International bullseye writes Daily Mail cricket correspondent Paul Newman. Archer who qualifies for England status in late March may well be fast-tracked into the side for the World Cup and could even be considered for The Ashes. Captain Eoin Morgan whose ODI side begins the tournament against South Africa on May 30th comments, "Jofra comes with a big reputation. He's an extremely talented young cricketer." Sussex supporters have known for some while that Archer may rarely be seen at Hove this season, which only makes the task of Division 1 promotion more difficult and places further pressure on the youngster seamers. PS. It is interesting to note that Jofra Archer is regularly referred to as "an all-rounder". Yet, due to all his T20 commitments over the Winter, he has rarely had an opportunity to prove himself with the bat.

One notes Phil Salt is growing in confidence both on and off the field and is turning into a bit of a 'Cheeky Chappy.' May this continue.

Sad news to hear about the passing of Hugh Thomas. Such people are the backbone of Sussex cricket and its continued success at all levels. One hopes there is someone to step in and fill his very large boots. sussexcricket.co.uk/news/memoriam-hugh-thomas

Joe Root continues to be praised for his support of the gay community after his verbal fracas with Windies bowler Shannon Gabriel last week during the final and third Test in St Lucia. The subject is covered in this latest Stumped podcast, but Alison Mitchell points out that while the ICC make it very clear there is zero tolerance of racist or homophobic comments on the cricket pitch, there are a fair number of countries where international cricket is played and where homosexuality is a criminal offence including West Indian islands like St Lucia and others. Those convicted can face a prison sentence of between five and 10 years. www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/w3cswnh2

Jonathan Agnew is upsetting people again. This seems to be an annual cycle bizarrely around the time when he's in the middle of a speaking tour, but I am sure that is just a coincidence. www.ents24.com/uk/tour-dates/jonathan-agnew
