No Sussex CCC batting coach, no specialist bowling or fielding coach, and Jason Gillespie disappears off to Australia at the end of September for 6 months to coach a completely different side. You couldn't make this up.
Meanwhile, Ben Brown may not be a born leader, but his honesty is always refreshing. The Andrew/Gillespie honeymoon period is well and truly over after today's embarrassing result.

Now it's Jason Gillespie's turn. Sorry mate, but the buck stops with you. www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p07nph3yPS: Sussex are looking to sign an O/S batsman for next season. FINALLY... but two years too late!

Jofra comes over as a nicer person than Brett Lee, but come on Jof... you should still have hit him!

Dashed Hopes
Hoped to achieve loads of stuff today, Fell somewhat short of my aspirations, For I am always the eternal blind optimist, So my hopes always seem to be dashed.
But at the end of the day today was today, Tomorrow is a new day for new hopes, Past experience ain't going to tether me down, Eventually high hopes and blind optimism will win the day.
Dashed hopes a sign that I over estimate, Always out thinking my actual capability, Who knows maybe a young mind stuck in an old body, But without high hopes nothing will be achieved at all.

It's time for a U-turn, let's get some. So long as they're already here that is. Greenfield might make a good batting coach, he spent most his playing days in the nets. Who was responsible for his pathway into the firsts? They did a wonderful job. If that guy was re-hired all our youth would get season after season of chances. Who was the coach in the early 90s? I was just getting into cricket then but I was also a drug addled anti social street corner chav so my memory is a little stunted.

Come next Friday, Jason Gillespie will dust himself down, shrug off the disappointing 2019 season with Sussex as ‘one of those things’, then jump on a plane and fly to Australia, where he’ll meet up with his other cricketing family and hope for better success. Sussex CCC won’t see him again until the latter part of March. (the tweet below was liked by JG)
Does cricket bigamy actually work?

Here are some of the posts currently held by Simon Katich. Commentator - ABC Radio Grandstand Commentator - Seven Network Football Operations Manager - Greater Western Sydney Giants Head Coach - Royal Challengers Bangalore Head Coach - Manchester Originals List Management Consultant - Perth Scorchers I dare say there are more. That last one - exotic as it sounds - might not amount to much more than providing answers to questions such as "Who shall we sign, Katto?", and "Who shall we get rid of?". Hopefully Kent's list management consultant is currently having another look at the strength of our squad for next season, paying particular attention to the mature all-rounder category.

You make a fair point, although much of it is floss to look good on his CV. I have noted that Gillespie has withdrawn more from his TV/media work in 2019. Whether this edict came from above or down to his own volition I'm not sure. I don't agree that his robust political, vegan and climate change opinions should be mixed up with his cricketing tweets. Gillespie should have two different Twitter Accounts. One for each.

Also, if he had two Twitter a/cs, he might post on the wrong one by mistake, or want to post about a mixture of things. You know what it's like having to choose which account/thread to post on.

You make a fair point, although much of it is floss to look good on his CV. It had just amused me that it seems like I read about Simon Katich taking up a new post every few weeks. His Hundred appointment was announced on 4th July, the Bangalore job was on 23rd August, and the Perth one was 17th September. All on top of his football job and the commentary stints. And that's just the jobs we know about. But of course none of these (with the possible exception of the football job) are season-long engagements, so I wasn't really making any kind of point.

A good example is the Wicked Cricket Twitter feed, where you will find the writer's views not just on people like Archer, Stokes and Topley, but also Trump, Brexit, Bercow, CNN, Assange, climate change ...

This feels good on three different levels.
: I am a lifelong Liverpool supporter.
: I support the Sussex Cricket Foundation.
: The Matt Hobden Trust is an excellent cause.
Will I attend it though? Probably not.
