There's nothing better than receiving praise from the Club given all the downs we supporters have to put up with.

We now learn the Sussex Slam begins on May 4th. Whilst there are 4 regions covering the 69 teams competing, this is then divided in to 19 different groups. The Cup Finals will take place at the Hove County Ground on September 7th and 8th which sounds like there will be at least 8 teams competing over these two days. Bizarrely, this covers a Monday and Tuesday (that is if the County Times have their dates correct). Sussex are playing away to Glamorgan in the Championship, so no matches at Hove during the weekend of September 5th and 6th. Is there a music concert occurring? Michael Buble is performing on August 7th, so no. What else could it be? For all the players involved in the Cup Finals must have to take days off from work? If so, very unjust. Surely, these dates are wrong?!? Meanwhile, the new competition is gaining a lot of interest from both cricket supporters and the media. One can see this tournament becoming a great SMASH! www.wscountytimes.co.uk/sport/cricket/sussex-slam-local-teams-discover-group-stage-opponents-1883718PS: Just discovered the Vitality Blast T20 Final at Edgbaston is on September 5th. Is this the reason why, in case Sussex CCC reach Finals Day? So, perhaps, not so much about the Slam Finalists, but about the club organisers behind it as well as Club supporters who already hold tickets. Therefore, it's simply bad timing, although you've gotta feel sorry for the Slam players who begin competing in early May for their BIG day at Hove.

I recommend that Sussex CCC Academy Director, Richard Halsall, has a listen to this excellent interview carried out by radio sports journalist Adrian Harms for BBC Surrey. Adrian pops along to Guildford and interviews the Surrey Academy Director, Gareth Townsend. Gareth TownsendThere is no other cricket county who has had as much success in recent years as Surrey with bringing through top cricket talent via their Youth Pathway and then Surrey Academy. Names like Jason Roy, the Curran Bros, Ollie Pope, Dominic Sibley and Rory Burns trip off the tongue and these have emerged in just the last 5 years leaving aside all the other past greats from Graham Thorpe and Alec Stewart to Jade Dernbach and Rory Hamilton-Brown to Mark Butcher and Rikki Clarke. www.kiaoval.com/cag-pitchero/www.theguardian.com/sport/2018/sep/20/surrey-cricket-production-line-county-cricket(The interview starts around 9 minutes)www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p081p5g9This is then followed by an interview with Chris Jordan (56.30), where he chats about his good friend Jofra Archer.

Hang on a sec'. This is a cricket Stadium and NOT a football one. Very impressive! And where is Ahmedabad? It is the largest city and former Capital of the Indian state of Gujarat. And have a guess who will be visiting here next week? None other than Donald Trump whose good friend Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has promised a turn-out of up to 7m people to cheer the US President on!

ECB Chairman, Colin Graves, and the Board's CEO, Tom Harrison, must be the two most controversial English cricket figures at present. The Cricketer Magazine scored a bit of a coup by persuading Harrison to carry out an hour's interview for their latest publication. Top man Huw Turbervill secured the meeting after a long time of trying given Harrison has been somewhat shy after the ensuing vitriol over The 100. Kudos to the Magazine.
Below are highlights of what Harrison said covering everything from ideas on how to expand The 100, if proven successful, to his views on 5 day Tests and Free-to-Air live cricket. Well worth a listen. The full interview is published tomorrow (Friday, 21st February).

When there is heavy rain in the West of the Country the heart goes out to Worcestershire CCC and New Road, knowing that the chance of their ground flooding - yet again - is highly likely. So, a quick visit to their website and live cam shows us this. You might as well be looking out to sea from Brighton beach. www.wccc.co.uk/pitchview/Meanwhile, the Club are offering FREE family tickets for those who have also suffered flooding to attend a home County Championship or Royal London Cup fixture during the 2020 season, which is a lovely touch. www.wccc.co.uk/news/worcestershire-ccc-to-offer-free-tickets-to-those-impacted-by-the-floods/

The Cricketer Magazine has been received by their subscribers today with the shops selling it tomorrow and already Huw Turbervill's coup interview with Tom Harrison has been hijacked by other cricket publications like a group of starlings around a bird feeder. First off is George Dobell from ESPNCricinfo who writes this rather tame piece without criticism (although, he is a contributor for them). Whereas cricket blogs like Full Toss and others won't be so generous given the present anger felt towards The 100. I am surprised no-one has called the ECB 'racist' or 'nazi', yet, given the present social climate. www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/28742478/expanded-hundred-help-cricket-rediscover-working-class-connection-tom-harrisonedit: Ah, here we go!

Apart from the occasional mentoring and consultancy jobs, Mark Robinson remains unemployed after being sacked from the England Women's Coaching job six months ago.
A fascinating interview with Robbo by the Cricketer Magazine's journo Nick Friend. Where does our former Sussex CCC Coach go from here except a return to county cricket, perhaps?

The below link from the Cricketer Magazine leads you to an inspiring feature about the Brighton Aldridge Academy entitled: AMAZING ALDRIDGE ACADEMY SETS STATE SCHOOL BENCHMARK. This is an excellent read. The Magazine are on fire at present with their quality of content. They have not looked back since developing and expanding their website a few years back and overtaken ESPNCricinfo for internet cricket news and features. 'Athers' can be aloof, scruffy and arrogant, but he was an excellent batsman and Captain and today a fine writer and journalist. No-one deserves this award more... and his acceptance speech is heart-felt too.
