Cricket legend Botham to join House of Lords
Oh, Come On! Is this some kind of April Fool in late July? Botham's colourful life-story is straight out of the annals of "The Weird and Strange." Could anyone have believed that during Botham's day of smoking weed, drinking gallons of alcohol, allegedly bedding pretty girls, and being the general establishment rebel, that at the age of 64 he would not only be a knighted "Sir", but soon to gain a peerage and join the House of Lords? What would have been the odds back in the 1970s and early '80s? A Million to One!?! www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-53606083Factoid: Did you know Botham is colour blind? So for him, there is no distinction between the red, white or pink ball.

How old is Garton, 22? He's our one to watch. Most on that list are so young they haven't even played yet I suspect. Particularly the first one, 16 - be surprised if he's one to watch yet, unless you're watching the twos.

That better be neat Vodka in his hands otherwise he's gone right down in my book - The Big Book Of Girly Disappointments. Half the England cricket team are recent additions.

Did anyone watch BBC2s cricket documentary The Edge last night? Bloody brilliant! Tempted to write a review. It was harsh, brutal, joyous, moving, extraordinary... One of the best behind the scenes view of any sport... ever. It is rare that a film about a triumphant sporting side leaves you wondering if all the success was worth the sacrifice.www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/53597318

I agree it’s one of the best portraits of a sport I’ve seen. There’s another one in the same vein of the Australian team (can’t remember the title) which I recently watched on Amazon Prime which was also very good.

The death of Bob Willis was a sad occasion. His dare-devil 'zonal' antics at Headingley in 1981 alongside Botham, then his long-lived commentary on SKY, he always spoke his mind, was never afraid to be honest, and offered a frisson to the punditry atmosphere. And yet, Willis became best known as "Boring Bob".
So, for all boring people out there, your time will come. Just as the meek shall inherit the earth, so the boring transform into extraordinary human beings after death. Look what has happened to Willis. He has a county cricket competition named after him and the plaudits surrounding a newly released book are second to none.
Boring is good - Boring is very good.

Sussex Cricket Foundation and Brighton & Hove Food Partnership provide recipe kits for over 1,000 local families
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Here is an inspiring story from the Sussex Cricket Foundation (SCF). The Club's charity arm are turning to Masterchef for inspiration, where the SCF are encouraging members of the local community to accept their FREE funded food ingredients in a bag and then turn them into a nutritious meal for the family. Individual responsibility combined with the Food Bank. Great stuff! The SCF are distributing 1,200 recipe kits to families in Brighton and Hove, identified through the city’s Emergency Food Network, during the school holidays. These ‘In the Bag’ kits will be sent out weekly and include ingredients and cooking instructions for a different meal each week.
The recipes have been carefully chosen to include food that households regularly receive from food banks and all will contain fruit and veg. They involve creative ways to use the ingredients and are designed to help the food go further. The ingredients will be weighed out and bags made up by a team of volunteers. The Sussex community has a number of former Masterchef winners including Steven Edwards of the Hove restaurant Etch, Kenny Tutt from the Worthing establishment Pitch, and Jane Devonshire of the 16th-century Lickfold Inn near Petworth. Others who have faired well in the competition include former builder Ben Addems from Eastbourne. Now here's an idea for the SCF. To add further 'spice and all things nice', why not ask these luminaries to come up with mouth-watering recipes for this excellent charitable cause? Anyway, I digress. The SCF recipe kits come at a time when more families than ever are feeling the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic on household incomes and turning to food banks for support. As well as providing much needed nutrition, the kits, which are being organised by the Brighton and Hove Food Partnership who have been coordinating the city’s emergency food response during Covid-19, offer families a fun activity to take part in during the school holidays. Vic Borrill, Director of the Brighton and Hove Food Partnership says, “it is a vital time for this initiative. During lock down we provided 3,200 households with emergency food parcels in just one week. A shocking 1,300 of those included children.” Adding, “The financial impact of Covid-19 is an ongoing challenge.” The funding from the Sussex Cricket Foundation was raised following the establishment of a COVID-19 working group. This group identified ways in which they could support the East and West Sussex community during COVID-19. A ‘Together Through This Test’ auction was held, which saw over £35,000 raised for various local causes across England and Wales. Sussex Cricket raised £10,000 of the total and the funds will be distributed to the Sussex community to help charities and causes impacted by the pandemic. The meal kit initiative named ‘In the Bag’ is the first project to receive funding from the SCF, with more to follow over the coming months. Katy Cooper, Trustee of the SCF says, “With the announcement of the new National Food Strategy, poor nutrition for children in England is a ‘slow motion disaster’. The Sussex Cricket Foundation is delighted to be taking steps to tackle this through our partnership with ‘In the Bag’, which will distribute meal kits to hundreds of families struggling to pay for food in these very difficult times”. If you are grappling to afford food there are food banks and support services available across the city. bhfood.org.uk/resources/referring-to-a-food-bank/ .
