At least one bat short now Laurie has gone I think Agreed. Wright, Salt, Rawlins, Wiese, Bopara....then it stops.

The gulf between men's and women's cricket may not be as wide as one thinks. Take this recent example, for instance. Sophie Devine has smashed a T20 hundred this week in just 36 balls during the Wellington Blaze v Otago Volts match creating a new women's record for the fastest century. On the other hand, the men's record is held by Chris Gayle with 30 balls. Agreed, a six ball difference could represent 36 runs, but even so... www.thecricketer.com/Topics/news/sophie_devine_crashes_fastest_womens_t20_century_super_smash.html

At least one bat short now Laurie has gone I think I'd agree with that lovelyboy . If Wright and Salt both score less than 30, we struggle to get a decent total. The number 3 slot is the problem. Last season, no.3 scored as follows: Finch 10 Rawlins 8 Finch 8 Finch 14 Rawlins 10 Rawlins 62 not out MacLeod 9 Thomasson 5 Rawlins 1 Rawlins 4 Rawlins 6 Besides the one outlier, it makes pretty dismal reading. Who are our OS, Wiese & Khan? Good as they both are in this form are either priority positions? Not for me, we have lots of all-rounders and Beer's a proven spinner with Rawlins as back-up too. We have a quality seam attack so bowling is our strength. As you say, three is a priority. So is a keeper as far as I can see. We rarely hit the right plan in acquisition, just like we don't tactically - if bowling is your strength and you have quality spinners, bat first. We've wasted points chasing. We'd go much further with a top bat at three and Carey at 4/5

Some visual stories have hidden meanings, perhaps? As you watch the video you see the Aussie Head Coach, Justin Langer, have a series of bizarre "watery moments," like Joe Biden on Razadyne, but the weirdest part is when he gets up to leave and we see an emblazoned DETTOL logo on his shirt. DETTOL?? Is this a subconscious sign that the Australian team are clean now from all past underhand and corrupt doings? If so, you'd better ask Steve Smith for confirmation!

What a legacy Those who have been in influential positions at Sussex CCC over the last 10 years or more, what an humiliation it is for them. Imho, a series of bad decisions, general mistakes and, above all, an inability to manage a once successful Club leading to a steady and embarrassing decline. This fall from grace, in my view, started with a stubborn refusal to allow Chris Adams a position in the Club after he had retired. If Chairman David Green, a keen advocate of Chris, who had promised him a management position and why Adams retired early to take on this promised role... If Green had then not had his heart-attack in 2008 and stepped down, allowing Jim May to take over, how different would the history of the last 10 years have been? Some might say Green's ill-health was terrible timing. Life is a series of crossroads offering different future timelines on the decisions made. The film Sliding Doors comes to mind.

Damn those trans fats. You're right though, really you want ill health about ten seconds before you peg-out, otherwise the timing is a bit of a nuisance. I hope my ill health doesn't come until I'm in heaven. I just assume the doctors will be better there. And the drugs.

Agreed, although I reckon a fair number of those who may contact this new mental health service will be Sussex CCC supporters unable to bear the Club's dramatic decline in recent years.

If you don't set up a mental health service these days you get castigated for being inconsiderate, especially as a big organisation. SCCC will have been coerced in to it, like everyone is. I set one up for my family in the dining room but they left instead. Guess I'll use it. Loads of drugs in there.

The BBC say that Sussex are the first sport club in the world to have set up a mental well-being hub/service.
Don’t see any other sporting organisations being castigated for not setting up one !

It is rather peculiar, is it not, that given all the emphasis, time, energy and expense focussing on the Sussex CCC Academy, where supporters are told by the Hierarchy, "Our players of the future will emerge" that the Club then signs a young seamer from the Surrey CCC Academy.
Anyway, welcome aboard Sean Hunt.
Perhaps, we should close down the Sussex Academy and focus on signing cricketers from other county Academies. Certainly, a lot cheaper and saves all the disappointment and hassle.
