.....reaching for the corkscrew.... Hope it's not the Amarone that's cool. I once knew a chap who kept his Barolo in the fridge and you don't want to know what happened to him!

Three days of absolute garbage from Sussex with only Matt Machan emerging from this match with any credit. Forget the title it is a relegation battle for Sussex. Yorkshire beat this lot with half a team missing. Well played, sir! Terrific win, congrats to Ajmal. He looks another who is going to enjoy the Robbo treatment. Machan man of the match though I'd have thought.

A fantastic day's cricket. I shared day 4 with hhs and apart from the 50 runs final partnership, the script played out perfectly. Sharzad was the star of the innings, imho. What a fantastic signing by Sussex. I spoke to Zac Toumazi on day 3 and he explained it wasn't a straight-forward pen on paper and a certain amount of wooing was required from the hierarchy. Not only is Shazza a street-fighter bowler but a dab hand with the bat too. He was constantly encouraging the other players on the field and one can see him quickly becoming a favourite with supporters. His Championship fifer was the cherry on top and his first since 2011. A great finish to a great four days of cricket which symbolised the best of the Championship format. Sympathies to Worcestershire who deserved more than 7 points out of this game; they fought gamely right up to the last wicket. Even so, Sussex are the winners and they travel to 'The Riverside' with confidence sky high. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/cricket/32414459PS: What a pretty picture! www.espncricinfo.com/county-championship-div1-2015/engine/series/803387.html?view=pointstable

Joy unconfined, we are top of the league! I'm a glass half full type of cove, so let's top that up to one of those pint glasses, that have an extra bit for the head.
Sparkling Elderflower of course.

Fantatstic win and delighted to have been proved wrong! It sounds like Ajmal was superb and Zaidi played his part with some excellent control at one end. So top of the championship and off to Durham and what should be another 'result' wicket and which will suit Sussex's four man pace attack.
As s & f says, Worcestershire "deserved more than 7 points out of this game; they fought gamely right up to the last wicket." They only had two bad sessions in the match, really - the pre-lunch sesssion on day one with the ball and pre-lunch with the bat on day four.
They clearly have a consistency/concentration problem because the game followed the pattern of their defeat v Yorks, where they also got a first innings lead and then had one bad session in which they were blown away for 100 in their second innings in 36 overs. This time they lost nine wickets for 77 in 28 overs.
Unless they can fix the 'bad session' syndrome and quickly, leedsgull may be right and they will turn out to be this season's Northants. One of the differences between division one and division two cricket is that the higher tier is unforgiving - one bad session is enough to cost you the match against ruthless opponents, whereas in Div Two you may well get the opportunity to make amends and fight your way back into the game.

I am delighted both that Sussex won and that my "condemnation" of Worcestershire's survival prospects continues to look vindicated. Borderman's assessment of Div 1 cricket is spot on.
Shahzad is an excellent signing with a proven track record. I watched his first appearance at Yorkshire and many thereafter. He was poorly managed there but is a quality player.

Well that was fun! All the good things have already been said - really good cricket, massive swings of luck, excellent individual performances and a wicket that did what it oughter. Oh and blue skies and sun throughout and some excellent beers. There will be worse days on which to be a cricket lover, which of course also means being capable of infinite patience despite the rats of irrational apprehension gnawing away. Apologies for the "cool" reference - was trying to send an emoticon via my mobile phone on the rather dodgy wifi just outside the pavilion, and it clearly didn't work very well. For the avoidance of doubt I do not keep Amarone or Barolo in the fridge - I thought those sort of men shot themselves - and I am now looking forward to the savour, some time in May.

A sometimes gruelling journey and the best part of fifty conkers might seem like a steep price to pay for just 3 hours' cricket but I'm very pleased I made the effort. Some skilful bowling from Shahzad with full-on intensity (although I didn't care for his antics in sending off the departing batters - like a sort of disco-dancing gunslinger). I thought Magoffin bowled well too and could easily have had a couple more scalps. I received the usual warm Sussex welcome and Hove in sunshine is just so special. Good work, all.

We have got so used to him turning in these performances every game that it takes a newcomer to remind us of the truth of the statement. Sorry not to have met you again today but glad it was worth it for you.

My £6 reciprocal ticket stated 'public areas only' so I didn't attempt a nose around the pavilion. Not very punk rock of me - I suspect I was just way too chilled out to want to push it. But I'll be back again before long. Am I right that I've seen more Sussex Championship wins than Borderman this year, ha ha ?
