The identity of the Sussex batting coach is as mysterious as the identity of Glos' T20 captain. According to the Glos website, it is not Geraint Williams, Geraint Jones or Ian Cockbain but Michael 'Maxy' Klinger. But he seems to have gone AWOL. All very confusing but still pretty disrespectul of Sussex not to find out who will be skippering the opposition (as it was to denounce them as "inconsistent" when Sussex has lost nine of its last thirteen T20s). Whether its Cockbain, Jones or Klinger who tosses the coin with Luke Wright tommorow, it ruddy well isn't someone called Williams. Does anyone actually proof read this stuff before Sussesx zends it aht?I'm not sure anyone does any proof reading, or if they do, they're just checking for spelling errors and typos. The recent announcement about JF's resignation was highly misleading factually incorrect.

The squad is:
WAT Beer BC Brown (wkt) C Cachopa HZ Finch DMPD Jayawardena CJ Liddle MW Machan SJ Magoffin TS Mills CD Nash SA Piolet OE Robinson LJ Wright (c) MH Yardy
The club site specifically mentions Zaidi as being injured, along with Hatchett, Shahzad, Anyon and Prior but welcomes back Mills "following his back problem". That contrasts with the words of Mark Robinson to Steve Hollis during the week that Tymal Mills had a viral problem with his back and there was no way of knowing when he would be fit and when it might return.

Send for the bat swing coach!
On Friday night Sussex scored one four in the last five overs. Today they didn't score a single four in the final ten overs (although Cachopa and Beer did clear the ropes for six). It's really bizarre - Nash hit three fours and Jayawardene hit six fours during their second wkt partnership and no other batsman hit a four at all.
Even with the Cachopa and Beer sixes, Sussex scored just 30 runs in boundaries in the last 10 overs.
As on Friday night, Sussex lacked a finisher. Bailey will fit the bill when he arrives. But what to do until then?

Well we won. That Gloucs side looked very, very, very average on paper. I suspect the people of Bristol would welcome franchise cricket as they may end up seeing some decent cricketers. Looks like a strong return for Mills and another crucial all-round performance from Beer.

Phew. At one point Glos wanted 21 from 14 balls and I thought the odds had swung back to them. But Robinson's 19th over and Mills 20th were superb.
Mills return of 3-30 shows that for all the clever 'change-ups' bowlers use in T20, fast and straight is still as good a way to go as any...
Beer has bowled well in both matches and there's a very decent T20 bowling line-up taking shape, with Shahzad to come back, too. Just need to sort out the middle-order batting and find a finisher to get us over the line until Bailey arrives.
Seems like there was a good crowd - more than double the one at Canterbury on Friday night. If only all these T20 games could be played on Sun afternoons, like the old JPL!

Yes play the game when the weather is half decent and people can actually get to and from the grounds by public transport!

Yes we've stopped the rot, which was the main thing. Don't think we have the batting to be viable finals day candidates, but the bowling did OK today. If Jayawardene and Magoffin are our T20 overseas "specialists" then that was pretty much our strongest side, aside from long term absentee Mattie Prior. You could make an argument for Shahzad's inclusion if he were fit, although he'd probably come in for Magoffin. That, for me, puts a question mark against our choice of T20 overseas "specialists" Not too sure what we can do about the lacklustre batting, we're kinda stuck with what we have, so maybe it's just a case of re-jigging the order

A must win won. That attack looks stronger with Mills and will look much stronger with Shahzad. Beer's a ledge now and should be in the Champ side - he's very consistent in this form, and I believe the opposite is Robbo's concern about him when it comes to the Champ, although the proof ain't really in the pudding, get him in man.
That middle order is a concern - two great starts finished with a whimper but I have some faith in Cachopa, Machan and Brown personally. Yardy ain't the answer for me but he is well and truly a mainstream bowler in this form, his batting position behind Beer and Robinson seems right to me. I'll prefer Machan at three, Cachopa four and Bailey five when that time comes, as good as Demange, or whatever the BBC has him down as, is. On that note, wonder why they have Trott down as Ian? Anyway, good win.

Lots of positives today when with just a few overs left it looked like deja vu from last season.
Mills for Liddle made an instant difference and his bowling is never boring to watch. His slower ball which gained a wicket with his fourth ball makes a huge difference for someone who bowls proper quick.
Will Beer deserved his man of the match award for his all-round performance. Mags first 2 overs were excellent but his final two could not have been more opposite. The partnership between Nash and JW (come on he deserves this acronym!) was a joy to watch and Cachopa made up for his dreary innings against Kent with a scintillating three 6s.
All in all, a lot of good stuff to take away, and once Shahzad is back we should be QF favourites.

For some reason the Beeb seem to use players' first names by birth rather than the name they go by. Probably just some automatic system because they can't be arsed to have someone type it in. The middle order does look slightly feeble, perhaps moving Jayawardene to open, batting through and Nash to 5 as he is as clean a hitter as we have. We never seem to get quite the right balance despite all the talent in the squad.

Mahela seemed highly proactive in the field, regularly running across to talk with Luke or the bowlers. He also out ran Yardy to the boundary before making a diving stop to save a four.
