I am delighted the Club have held a Press Conference this morning and released a statement to coincide with it. This had to be done and quickly. Yes, there are many questions still to be answered surrounding Arif and Vincent but patience, perhaps, is the byword for now. Otherwise, one ends up speculating until the umpires leave an evening pitch, which can be both negative and destructive. I reread this 'Daily Mail' article from a week ago which asks some of those questions. Anything written or co-written by Ed Hawkins one reads with relish and respect. www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/cricket/article-2636839/The-fix-revealed-Poor-batting-huge-wagers-game-crisis-Lou-Vincent-Naved-Arif-charged.htmlPS: Many thanks borderman for attending the Press Conference and passing on what was said.

Wasn't there but know somebody who was, who smuggled out key quotes via mobile phone as they were made!
I think this thread over the last few days has been excellent - intelligent, thoughtful, concerned, responsible and prepared to ask the right questions. And quite possibly played a valuable part in persuading the club that today's pc was necessary, because the terse statement issued last Friday made it perfectly clear that at that point Sussex's firm intention was to say nothing further, let alone put up chairman, CEO, coach and captain at a pc.
That's what I call constructive criticism and it helped to produce an entirely positive outcome.
Meanwhile the same source at Merchant Taylors assures me there is absolutely zero chance of any play today...

Sadly, this Middlesex match could become a wash-out given the forecast for tomorrow and Thursday.

BM:
You were looking for "a statement of support for whistleblowers"
Jim's letter says, "We are all conscious of the constant need to be vigilant and of the processes in place to report any suspicions."

One interesting development; last week, the club was 'disappointed' about the match fixing allegations - today's statement uses the word 'shocked'.
Reading (or misreading?) between the lines of the Argus article today, it sounds as if the players' meeting on Sunday galvanised the board into holding the PC and strengthening the tone of its message. In any event, Jim's open letter is a big improvement on last week's statement.

While we wait for the 11.30 press conference, to pick up on the debate about the signing of international T20 specialists - Glamorgan have today announced the signing of Darren Sammy in addition to Michael Hogan (Australia but EU passport), Jacques Rudoplh (South Africa) and Murray Goodwin (Zimbabwe with an Australian passport but exempt from the NQ regulations on length of residency?) Sammy will make his T0 debut v...Sussex Sharks on Friday. Not sure if he is a kolpak (he's retired from Test cricket but I think still hopes to play T20s for West Indies so I don't see how he can be?) And Aussie Jim Allenby.

And I'll raise you another Welsh-Aussie, Jon - Stewart Walters.

I was at the Press Conference and would be happy to answer any questions relating to it. I am sure Jim will too when he gets back from what has been an extremely long day.

I think it went well and - please don't take this wrong as you did yesterday when I said your Magoffin comment was disingenuous, because this is actually a compliment - it was far more effective to have Robinson and Joyce taking the lead and focussing on the dressing room's "anger" than to have too many bland platitudes from 'the suits'.

I could not agree more with you BM. Both were excellent. Robbo we know all about but Ed in particular showed great leadership in expressing his desire to make the statement and speak at the Press Conference.
