Is Yardy injured?
Sorry if I'm not keeping up with all the injury news.

Three stands of 46, 1 of 47, 1 of 55 and 1 of 60. That's as good as the opening partnership has been this season.

Fair play to the guy for stepping up to a position he'd rather not be playing, but when is he going to start to deliver. This certainly isn't the Joyce we've been used to

The selection is utter chaos, even under the circumstances. Still, a reasonable start, let's hope there's enough in this middle order to put on a total.

Attempting to understand the selection and to assess how well Sussex are doing, I've looked at the three matches Warwickshire have played at Edgbaston this season: - The average first innings score by the side winning the toss is 344, the score from the side batting second averages 205. Warwickshire have won 2 and drawn the other game.
As both sides are playing two spinners, I see that 13 wickets have fallen to spin here this season.
On the first count, 90 for 1 looks a good lunch time score provided that it is sustained. Obviously we need batting points and we need a win, and it looks as if out-batting the opposition is critical. As far as the spinners are concerned I assume a) that Burgoyne earned his place through his seconds performances and that Robinson trusts him more than Dockrell not to wither under fire, b) That Zaidi is there to show that his brace of 60s against Gloucestershire II wasn't a flash in the pain, and that it might be nice for him to bowl a bit turning the other way from Burgoyne's deliveries, c) That Yardy is unfit, as hinted in the pre-T20 announcement on Friday that he would have a ftneess test that day. Presumably whatever it is he wasn't to be trusted to keep fit for 4 days. No idea why no Cachopa, who seemed to be coming back into form.

What is astonishing is that Burgoyne is the seventh player in just a couple of years to be drafted into the squad mid-season. And i'm not even counting overseas signings in that. The list runs Zaidi, Cachopa, Tredwell, Robinson, Linley, Dockrell and now Burgoyne. The majority have been astute recruits - so let's hope Burgoyne keeps the trend going. But what it must do for the confidence of the likes of Beer, Liddle and Piolet is another matter... What it does do is to raise the question as to why they are still at the county. Why name three spinners in a squad of 13. This squad confirms what I feared which is that Beer has no future at Sussex and should ask to leave the county. Yep it's bewildering, it's a vendetta is what I think. This lad Burgoyne pitches up, gets a Michelle and he's in. Beer's been doing that in the seconds for eight years. Astonishing. It's no wonder if his confidence is low in the longer form, he's constantly ignored by the coach. Unless I was resigned to just playing ODs, I'd want out if I were him for sure. Coming in and seeing us 185-3 was a pleasant surprise though - didn't know we had it in us this season. I guess it was a choice between Zaidi and Choppa, our two foreign locals who can play because a great great step gran once had a picnic in Switzerland, and oddly Zaidi got the gig - maybe because of the left arm darts. That's 50 for Nash at number four. We're determined to stick with that one by the looks of it.

Ton for Snasher in his new position. A long time coming but here at last - well done that man. 264-3 - that felt good.

Sussex bat all day - that hasn't happened much this season.
Great to see Nash back in the runs after a sorry season but also a very mature innings from Luke Wright.
After the extraordinary pyrotechnics of the other night, he's batted 42 overs for 43 runs in a partnership of 117.
Big four day scores require someone to occupy the crease, which Sussex batsmen simply haven't done this season, so Luke - the side's cleanest hitter - volunteers for the role. Real quality to be able to do both.

Can't comment on whether LW needed to score at such a laborious pace, but all five batsmen have played for the long game, to their credit. Seems we want to make it impossible for the opposition to win and take it for there. Not a bad strategy.
The inclusion of Burgoyne's enough to drive you to drink.

How times change. Nash scores a hundred and fraudster's become about as controversial as a pot of tea. Still, The Who are on at Glastonbury tonight so, to mix bands, The Song Remains The Same.

fraudster's become about as controversial as a pot of tea. I know what you mean and I think the newly conservative fraudster is a doppelganger. Can we have the real one back please?

A very disciplined batting performance against one of the most professional sides in the division No time to relax though, we need to play with the same intensity tomorrow. Warwickshire are masters at grinding you down

Will Beer cant do anymore to get a 4 day game it seems any trialist is given ago ahead of him now! Burgoyne failed at div 2 Derbyshire and was released so why he is given ago ahead of beer I am not sure! Hope he does well but I have my doubts!

Change bands more like. Gonna watch middle age men 'rock out' to old age men eh - good for you. The song really does remain the same at Glastonbury. Anyway, hey, in my second to last post, excluding this one, I used the word vendetta and I delivered a deliciously funny and borderline racist attack which would have seen me thrown to the lions by the elders three years ago. I ain't more conservative, this MB is more liberal. Can't upset anyone on here.
