I agree that most important is to improve the players we already have and produce, and Robbo doesn't have a track record of that. It's time for a change. I wouldn't mind someone like Graham Thorpe or the obvious old boys Moores and Adams. I think it's unlikely we will get to Yorkshire's level, if anything they have been under performing for years whilst we have been over performing, we will always have to compromise but with a bit more luck with fitness and a couple of signings, we will be OK. Just need to finish this season strongly.

I believe as far as the Academy is concerned we should be backing our own youngsters. The challenge for the Under 17 coach next year is to build a new successful team with Jenner (Jersey), Doram (Holland), Rawlins (Bermuda), Nightingale (Guernsey), Fazakerley (Guernsey) Haynes, Sear, Lloyd and Piper no longer eligible for the Under 17s.

To be fair Joe I didn't take much notice of the performances in the Sussex League as I feel their performances in Under 17 matches against players from other counties of a similar age is a more accurate barometer of where they are. Certainly in Billings, Collard, Gordon, Oxley, Nick Smith plus Ellen Burt, Tara Norris and Flora Bertwistle the talent is there to supplement Haines plus the league of nations trio of Doram, Jenner and Rawlins. I agree a new Captain, Director of Cricket and Academy Coach are needed. It says something about your Academy coach and his ability to develop younger players when you have to go Bermuda, Holland and Jersey to find suitable players. Fraudstar - Haines won't be offered a contract as he is only 16. So? The reason for offering him a contract is because he's been scoring decent runs in the seconds. What's that old saying? If you're good enough it takes two to tango, or something. Besides, by next season he'll be 17 and if you're old enough to drive a couple of tonnes of metal at 80mph on a motorway you're old enough to play cricket with men. He'd still be behind Finch, Whack and Salt anyway it's just a confidence booster and experience gainer. Nothing to lose, everything to gain.

I'm pretty sure Haines has two more years at Hurstpierpoint College to do A Levels, I do agree however that he is a fantastic prospect. He recently captained an English Schools side at Lords and was voted best all rounder.

My 19 man Under 17 squad for next season: Batsmen Haines (c) Clark Lenham Lincoln Storey Walker Wood Keepers Billings Orr Spinners Collard Oxley Rattle Seamers Atkins Bradley Gordon Heath Hobbs Smith Twine My first choice XII: Haines (c), Billings (+), Orr, Twine, Lenham, Clark, Oxley, Gordon, Smith, Rattle, Collard and Hobbs.

Yes, I think we are all in agreement that Haines is the shining light But will he want to play cricket for a living? This must be the reason why a number of prospects never materialise.
