Take him on loan now. Sign him for next year if he performs and we can can release someone to pay his wages. I have some thoughts on who could be released. Only a chimpanzee wouldn't. I don't know to be honest, Magoffin?

Why sign a seamer playing for the 2nd worst team in the country? I'm sure he's a very good guy but, Surely we have some ambition?

Groenwald's wickets helped get Derbys promoted in 2012 and last season he took 45 wkts in Div One. And he certainly has ambition, which is why he has decided to leave Derbyshire.
But in any case, don't we recruit most of our bowlers from the second division (apart from those we recruit from the Lancashire League?)
Magoffin played for Worcs in Div Two. Jordan played for Surrey in Div Two. Anyon played for Warwicks and Surrey when both were in Div Two. Amjad Khan played for Kent in the lower tier - and Tredwell can't even get in a Kent side that is third from bottom in Div Two. Panesar played for Northants in Div Two. Lewis spent many years in Div Two with Glos and was then signed from a relegated Surrey. Liddle and Luke Wright played div two cricket with Leics.
We've done pretty well by buying players at the bottom end of the market who have ambitions to play at the top, I'd say...

I don't like his name - what is he Mexican? Don't like his age either. On the other hand I believe BM's sufficiently proved there's every chance he's good enough. I hope we give every chance to Hatchett and Hobden this season though to prove their worth, and hopefully not on roads like the last one.

It would make sense He's been frozen out Derby and is looking to move to a First Division county next season, hopefully we'll still be one, so we could steal a march and have a good look at him. Since Jordan's call up, our seam attack, bar Mags, has struggled. Even better if we can send someone like Zaidi the other way. He's struggled in this division and maybe the experience of playing regular cricket in Division Two could be beneficial.

We were a bit slow out of the traps there. A very good signing for them, I think. I wonder why we never made a move for him, we needed another seamer even before Jordan's involvement with England, and now that's Coles and Groenewald who've slipped the net

Why would a seamer come to Hove? Taunton's even preferred these days. Lots of talk from our groundsman and a few 'official' people about producing fast tracks at Hove over the last couple of years but where is it? We're still playing on lifeless soul destroying pitches, why? What's so difficult about producing a decent strip? It all stems from our negative defensive brand as far as I can see.

He's a Saffa - not Mexican after all. Where do the SA team stay when they tour England? With all their mates in Somerset. How many overseas have they got now? Kieswetter, Myburgh, Peterson, Thomas and Groengringowald - They should be ashamed of themselves and England should have a word. Frigging cheats. And they let the brightest English talent, Somerset born and bred, leave in favour of keeping one of their many many overseas players. I would be utterly appalled if I were a Zum fan, heaven forbid.

My first thought on hearing Groenewald joining Somerset was whether the great Alfonso is retiring at the end of the season. Sussex batsmen must be hoping so.

It does seem odd that Derbyshire should drop their leading bowler this season and send him out on loan simply because he hasn't signed a contract for next season. He's still contracted and salaried until the end of September and could help Derbyshire climb away from the foot of div two.
I remember Kent did a similar thing when Neil Dexter announced his intention to leave (they actually sent him home from Lancashire when he told them he wasn't signing a new contract on the morning of a match in which he was due to play), so perhaps it is not as unusual as all that.
But it still seems strange to me. A player should surely be allowed to see out his contract and clubs who refuse to permit them to do so are cutting off their noses to spite their faces?

If you don't wanna play for us then f**k off now - is the attitude I fully understand and side with too. It's a distraction you're better off clearing.
