bm,
All about momentum now. Can Sussex turn things around?
As I didn't follow the game, were the team remarkably improved, in particular their bowling, or were Kent simply dire?

Well the BBC suddenly started working again and what a pleasant surprise - a win at last. So much for your 'better under lights' talk BM, it's our day today. Piolet, Hatchett and Beer, hats off boys. And Wright of course who has delivered in this form, at last, while all else failed. Good little knock from Finch, albeit a touch slow, but in the context of the game a match winning partnership. Crack on with the youngsters, they've helped stop the rot. Yes the youngsters certainly freshened things up a bit, and to be fair, some of the seniors have had more than a fair crack. Regarding Finch, perhaps he was playing to orders, asked to play the skippers holding role. I agree, we were probably a batsman light but that seems to be the way Robbo likes us to line up, with plenty of bowling options. Also, there were not too many batters left to select. Personally, I'd have been tempted to play Wells in the holding role and let young Finch play his natural game. Not really sure whether Jimmy Anyon should be used in these type of matches, so Wells for Anyon, would have been my choice. It would have given Wells another opportunity in the one day side, something that might be an issue with his contract up at the seasons end, well according to George Dobell anyway. Any opportunity to head off that scenario should be taken, we simply cannot afford to lose Luke Wells to another county. All in all, a pleasing performance and a long overdue result, well done Sussex.

Is there any truth of Wells going or is it just more sensationalist journalism on which Dobell seems to thrive upon?

As far as Wells is concerned I think his two innings at Arundel went someway to proving he has not picked up the bad 4 day habits of so many others who play 2020.

Is there any truth of Wells going or is it just more sensationalist journalism on which Dobell seems to thrive upon? Sssshh! The George Galloway of cricket journalism gets very upset if you say things like that... But it is true he suggested that Wells was looking to play T20 and if he couldn't do it with Sussex, he would decline a new contract and look for another county at the end of the season. May be he is right - one would imagine Wells would have been offered a new contract by now in order to ward off 30 day approach notices from rival counties, but with no news that he has signed I guess we have to assume that he has so far not put pen to paper. Personally I agree with jimbon - it's good to see an opening batsmen not infected with the sins of Bashball. Robson is one and Wells is another.

We are never going to have a T20 side where everyone can score rapidly. There will always be a role for someone who can play the anchor role. At Sussex, that role seems to belong to Joyce but it strikes me that we could lessen his workload and let Wells have a go in the T20. Playing his natural game, when on form, Wells is more than capable of striking the ball a long way. It seems to me that we could let the skipper concentrate on the championship, and try and ward of this potential problem with Luke. I really would not like to see him leave Sussex.

Oh for having money. Surrey are going all out to win the T20 Blast this season. And the signing is for all formats too. Even Sussex might have had a chance of attracting Dilshan a few years back. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/cricket/27947708

Yep, Wells for Anyon and this side's looking better balanced - and if we can kill two birds with one stone by giving Wells a chance to prove he's worth a place then even better. Now's the time to do it, there's nothing to lose. I don't really get why we think we need five bowlers plus Nash and Wright in this form, we're wasting a place for me. Nash is seriously underbowled in one-day cricket. Hopefully he'll carry on captaining our T20 side for the rest of the season and bowl himself much more.

I saw it happen twice yesterday and again this morning. Is a well known saying worth picking up on LM?

Where's the flawed strategy in the context of how I've used it? You don't think it's a good idea to play Wells in T20, or you don't think the balance of the T20 side is wrong, or both? What's wrong with adjusting the balance by playing Wells, for you? Or anyone for that matter? I'm harping on about it because I have been for ages - the balance mainly. To me it's blatantly wrong, and now in the CC too.
