I wonder if this reduced BBC coverage is a sign of things to come and the extensive county coverage may be the next to be reduced? Hopefully not, because the production-costs-per-broadcasting-hour are minimal, and it's a good sign that the BBC was offering ball-by-ball from the MCC v Yorks game today. As for England's prospects, today's results surely mean West Indies only need to beat Afghanistan to go through. That means only one out of England, South Africa and Sri Lanka can progress. Assuming England beat Afghanistan, they will need to beat Sri Lanka - and even then could still lose out on NRR if SA beat Sri Lanka and West Indies. Sri Lanka could also still progress if they beat West Indies and England.

The last 5 minutes have been catastrophic for England. Three wickets in four balls including a run-out and a golden for our captain: 42-4. God knows what the media will say if England lose against Afghanistan and are knocked out of the tournament. The one positive thing is... will the humiliation place even more pressure on the ECB to force through an EPL?
Up to Stokes and Buttler to get England out of this mess.
edit: Buttler out - this match has all the echoes of "that" Netherlands match.
50-5.

57-6 as Stokes is bowled by a long hop. Not even a Hollywood horror film writer could offer such a nightmarish script! This is beyond humiliation. A miracle is now required.

Ali to the rescue? Alongside "The bowler's holding the batsman's Willey!" England: 142-7 (Ali 42*: Willey 20*) Now down to our bowlers to complete the miracle. edit:Fantastic fight-back from England. They dug themselves an almighty hole and then found a way out. Would the old England have discovered an escape hatch? Probably not. Onwards and upwards where 'dull' never comes in to the equation.

Some entertaining stuff today. Moeen Ali once again showed why he gets picked for England. Its because he is quite good, especially in the white-ball variants, as both batsman and bowler. Rashid has his moments as a bowler but hasn't shown any sign that he can bat, oddly when you think of the deft, wristy strokeplay he used to show for Yorkshire a few years ago. The rest of them managed to mix competence with absurdity, but that is the nature of the slog-ball game.
Even more fun: Bangladesh had a wonderful chance to ditch India out of their own competition, even though it wouldn't advance their own side. Unfofrtunately they let themselves be psyched out of victory in the last over, a muddle of farcical incompetence by batsmen, appalling bowling, and the devious ploys of Dhoni delaying, conferring, delaying, conferring again until the batsman was wetting himself with pent up nerves. A bit rich that in a quick format competition the last over should take up two or three overs of "normal" play, and media and umpires are at fault in encouraging this cheap form of intimidation.

Nice win. Hold your EPL tongues for now you vultures. Christ I wish India went out today. When Bango buckled it was the most annoyed I've been since Robinson last picked a Sussex team. India came very close to going out on their own turf today. Maybe they should get an EPL type franchise to improve their fortunes - oh.

Here are the performances of the currently registered Sussex players in the tournament so far.

Well I thought that the West Indies/South Africa game was
a) very entertaining b) quite relevant in the implications of the result for England supporters
Other opinions are available.

We may see Mr Fiz bowl at Mr Tayor today. Just watched Fizz's 1st wicket this morning on the CricInfo video clip. He looks to be a very interesting find for Sussex. BTW, don't you just love these in-play CricInfo videos? Great innovation.

Commentators are enthusing about him and the subtle changes in his speed and wrist position. He appears to have a big arsenal of deliveries. Looks as if we may have pulled one out of the hat!

Meanwhile Taylor is having trouble getting bat on ball and has just been dropped in the deep.
