Essex should win tomorrow and open up a big gap at the top. Glos and Worcs is in the balance and could be an interesting day if weather permits.
Glam v Derby will be a draw. Leics v Kent also an inevitable stalemate, although resurgent Leics would have fancied their chances of whipping lacklustre Kent if the weather hadn't ruined the game. Apparently ten Kent players took the field in beanie hats today, giving every impression that they didn't want to be there and that they can't wait for the three hour T20 slog-fests to start instead of having to put in four days hard work.
Essex on 57 pts after three games is going to set a tough pace for others to follow...

Porter gets his second five wicket haul in two matches, sort of puts the achievements of our bowlers into perspective Don't write us off yet jb. The difference between a win and a draw is not just down to the bowlers. If we'd held all our catches and our middle order had fired then we could have been in a different position. To be honest, Joe, if Essex had played Masters instead of Dixon, I think they would have been chasing a considerably smaller target on the fourth day at Hove and probably would have won... Nobody shoudl write off Sussex yet, but they really need to beat Leics next week. And with only one win in the last 13 CC games, Wright and Jordan absent and a resurgent Leics brimming with almost as much conifdence as their football team, it's going to be a very tough game...

Kent management seem to have cracked the whip - just as cold today but not a beanie hat in sight; under orders they've all taken the field in their Kent caps. Leics's opening bat Robson has just said on the radio that they're looking for a lead of 150-200 and then hoping to bowl Kent out in the final session, which seems more than a tad optimistic...

A chilling and ruthless performance from Essex today. Now 57 points and riding high. A win against Leicestershire is vital for Sussex if they are to remain in contention at this early stage of the season. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/36146361

Kent will lose Matt Coles for disciplinary reasons for a two-match period. He was reported after an incident in the Glamorgan match for a Level Two breach of the code - throwing the ball at or near a player, umpire or official in an inappropriate and dangerous manner. This follows a reprimand and three penalty points for a Level One breach in August 2014, and 6 penalty points following a Level Two breach in September 14. Any further Level Two breach within 24 months incurs 6 penalty points, and the total of 12 penalty points triggers an automatic suspension. His ban applies up to and including 18th May.

Possibly a bad misreading of the pitch at Edgbaston. Notts didn't fancy bowling so went for the toss, which Warwickshire won, and after 16 overs they are 18-4. Moreover the recalled Fletcher, covering for Ball and Broad, who was so toothless against the Joyce and Wells onslaught last week at Derby, has figures of 8-5-3-3.

We think we have problems (well actually we know we do) but Leics scored four boundaries in their second innings, were all out for 43 and had two players run out.

We think we have problems (well actually we know we do) but Leics scored four boundaries in their second innings, were all out for 43 and had two players run out. The lesson is don't ever give up. Leics took six bonus pts and a decent first innings lead. This morning they looked to have the upper hand in this match. But all those years of Worcs treating triumph and disaster just the same as they have bounced up and down like a yo-yo between the two divisions has given them a steely backbone. And Kent started the day facing a Derbys total of 492 and seemed certain to follow on. They avoided it and with Derbys 9-3 and Godelman crocked they are now favourites to win tomorrow. Sean Dickson scored 207 not out. You may recall this time last year when his agent was shopping him around the counties and he was available at a bargain price, I urged Sussex to sign him! There were four fancied sides for promotion before the start of this season - Sussex, Worcs, Essex and Kent. The only one not living up to the billing is Sussex. Our players man-for-man can match the other three fancied sides. The main difference is self-belief. Somehow Robinson allowed a culture of self-pity to corrupt the squad's morale (by his own admission, so I don't think that is a controversial statement) - and its hangover has so far this season lingered on.

Sussex now in 17th place, three pts ahead of bottom-feeders Glamorgan, who had the beating of table-toppers Essex today but ran out of time.
"Robbo's rich legacy" (© Jon Filby, who shouted those very words in my face on day one of the season v Essex) is the gift that just keeps on giving...

We need to move on. There are few more bitter critics of 'that man' on this planet than I, but is now time to hold others responsible for the team's performances.

But we need to face reality and that isn't going to happen while senior people at the club go around deluding themselves that Davis and Wright have inherited a "rich legacy". Moving on means accepting that they have actually been left an unblanced, incoherent mess that requires the implementation of remedial measures. And I think those remedies are probably named Salt, Finch, Garton and Whittingham rather than Cachopa, Shahzad, Mills and Briggs, although it is going to take two or three seasons for the youngsters to become the match-winners they have the potential to be...

Wright has underscored the signing of Briggs. Let's focus accountability on Zac who was i/c last year and this.

Zaidi's first game of the season for Essex and Panesar playing a second time for Northants lends additional interest to the game at Northampton. Whatever were Essex thinking of, after the opening Sussex game, in giving Northants first crack on their own wicket? Duckett duly paddled on to along to another big score, Porter is missing and unless the rain seeps under the covers again this looks like a big scoring draw. Already Essex have used 8 bowlers (Zaidi 4-0-21-0) and Northants still have 14 overs to make maximum batting points.
