Have you any reason to be optimistic about that, jonboy? No, other than the fact that we can't go on like this Acting purely as devil's advocate: What's to stop us going on like this? What person or event is going to initiate change?

Wow that's daring! So, Weise is going to get us promotion is he? I was expecting someone far more high profile. What's the point of Weise? We need a top class batsman. What has happened to the ambition of the club?

That was probably the most unsurprising thing we have done all year! (Other than have a batting failure)

What has happened to the ambition of the club? Can't afford a high profile player - remember we've got to pay Mr Fizz's rehabilitaion costs. www.bdcricteam.com/2016/07/sussex-ready-to-bear-mustafizurs-treatment-expenses/If this is true, then the club has developed an unhealthy obsession with this young man.

Totally agree. I didn't see anything he did in the one T20 game he played for us where he got wickets that Garton didn't do ( with a better average ) in the game last week. And now we've got the emergence of Archer too who looks equally as exciting. I think the club have seen £ signs because the huge following The Fizz has in Bangladesh have now become Sussex fans and they see long term financial gain.

What has happened to the ambition of the club? Harsh. We had a 'top class' batsman in Taylor and where did that get us? We need our current 'top class' batsmen to stand up and be counted. If we want promotion we need a top spinner or a good all-rounder, I think Wiese is that - he has a good first class record I think. He will give us the balance we have lacked for too long and is the right man, I reckon. He gives us many options with our attack, rotating the three young quicks and potentially playing a spinner.
Personally, I think if we do the right thing and drop Mags, play Jordan, Archer, Whittingham and Garton and use Wells and Nash as spin options, we will go a long way to regaining some form. Our options will be strong to back up our young quicks.

Not pushing the claims of Beer now that we have some decent, hard wickets for a young Sussex-bred spinner to prove himself on?

Yeah Beero can slip in for one of the three Amigos if that's the fancy. Either way we'll have at least four seamers to play with, that's the beauty of the signing - so long as he scores some runs and takes a few wickets.
I dunno what SA domestic first class cricket is like, presumably quite decent, but he averages 36 with the bat with nine centuries including a double and 26 with the ball. That's much better than the above 30 and below 30 guideline to a good all-rounder but we will see. The options and balance brought by the man are the key.
I'll give up on Chawla for now but not Beer just yet. The important thing now is to be brave and pick the right quicks. Who are our form quicks? Who are most likely to take wickets? I know.
