Good news, indeed.
I wonder why Joyce can't give Sussex a straight answer re his future. He's presumably had a long time to think about it.

Exactly, I think the fact that he's happy living in Ireland and that we've already signed two senior players means that he won't return. I believe he still has ambitions to play international cricket for Ireland and I wish him well, he has been a superb player for Sussex and will be missed.

If he does go, I would implore Sussex to replace him with an international OS batsman. That would be the only way we could get near to replacing the sort of quality he brings to the top of the order. We can't replace him from within, and there's no one among the cast offs from other counties who could adequately replace him. Not replacing him with similar quality, would actually leave us weaker than last season, when we were never really able to mount a challenge. It's never ideal if you lose a batsman of Joyce's calibre, but we do have a trump card, in the vacant overseas slot. I really hope we don't waste that opportunity, by bringing in another bowler, who we don't really need

We'll also hopefully have a fit and firing Luke Wright. As club captain I would like to see Luke commit 100% to Sussex next season, not come back late from Oz/NZ with injuries which affected his early season so badly. He should be with the squad for all the pre season warm up tours and coaching.

It's about maintaining the right balance, I think.

The captain is the leader by definition and as such should lead from the front, being absent sets the wrong tone. A cohesive team off the field makes for a cohesive team on the field.

Maybe. We understand that Davis has asked him for a decision by 31 October.

The latest trickle-feed from the Sussex media machine www.sussexcricket.co.uk/news-1/squad-update-rawlins-signs-professional-deal-hudson-prentice-is-released-by-sussex finally confirms the news about Rawlins' contract that we picked up from Twitter at the end of September ( unofficialsussexccc.freeforums.net/post/21513/thread). Very odd that Sussex didn't want to say anything publicly at that time, though the young player has obviously been cock-a-hoop about it in his own Tweets. It is coupled with the not really unexpected news that Fynn Hudson-Prentice has been released. He finally got opportunities this year but didn't really take advanatge of them as a batsman, after early form in the Seconds faded. That leaves Joyce as the only member of the Class of 2016 contract termination dates whose future remains unsettled, or at least, unadvised outside of Hove. Below is the 20 man squad at present....watch for the next gripping instalment.

And while I was posting that, and fluffy was too, this Twitter exchange from Wright and Ed Joyce may or may not be revealing:

Yep, you got there just first. The dismissal of FHP once again shows the vagaries of the Academy and why we can't rely on the system entirely to create our next team in Division 1. I am not sure what the Academy success rate has been in recent years. It would be interesting to note the percentage. Also, we see how tough it is for a youngster to develop sufficiently to become a full-fledged 1st XI team member. Someone who shows great promise at 17 years-old, often does not lead on to becoming a leading professional player. www.theargus.co.uk/sport/cricket/generalcricket/14842741.Sussex_release_young_all_rounder/

Do we know what's happening with Jonty Jenner yet? Like Rawlins, he's graduated from the academy, but unlike Rawlins, there's been no mention of a contract
