We will need to be patient with youngsters, but to my mind, that means introducing them gradually. One or two at a time, brought into a side that is already competitive, is the way forward. Any more, and it will be men against boys, as indeed it was the current game against Kent.

Although at 24 and with 40 first class games behind him can Cachopa be classified as a youngster anymore? He is only a year younger than Wells who is a capped player with 13 first class centuries.

Much overlap betwween the debate here and the debate this morning in the members forum thread between myself, cp and jb.
Both concern getting the the balance right between academy products and smart recruitment of experienced players from elsewhere.
You might consider combining them, Mr Mod?

Returning to the topic of Christian Davis, here's an interesting oddity for the statisticians. His now concluded career record as a Sussex player in the county championship reads as follows: Played two, won two. OK, he didn't score any runs. But given that prior to Davis joining the team, Sussex had only won two of their previous 21 CC games, should we not sack Sid The Shark and give Davis a contract as a lucky mascot?

A little patience may be needed but there does look to be some decent youngsters to work with
Archer, Whittingham, Robinson and Garton all look promising and could form our seam attack for some time
Finch looks to have the armoury to make a fine middle order batsman and there is certainly something to work with with both H-P and Salt
I would happily wait another year for 1st division cricket is we see these youngsters given a chance to develop and fit in around Nash, Wells, Brown, Jordan and Wright.
I fear the great Mags needs to replaced (with our future in mind) by an overseas opening batsman of some quality and experience as he approaches the end of a fine career with Sussex.
A spinner still looks an impossible dream, Will Beer just doesn't seem to be trusted in the longer form game, a shame as he is a spirited cricketer of no little ability. Maybe it is time for Mark Davis to unearth a SA Kolpak spinner who can take wickets and bat!

Magoffin has a season left on his contract, continues to be by far our best bowler,is not an overseas player, never was an opening bat....so I am not sure I understand this comment even a little bit.
Insert Joyce and it makes more sense.
Regardless we need a quality opening bat.
