Interesting fact. Our 3 CC defeats have brought 6, 7 and 8 pages of posts. Our two victories have both brought 4 pages. Do we just like to moan? Interesting points about what holds people's attention and what inspires them to comment. Taking the first point the overall "viewership" or reach of this forum, as measured in pageviews for the days of the County Championship games so far looks this: Kent 12, 884 Notts 9, 032 Durham 12, 068 Kent (TW) 13, 169 Worcs 9, 298 The two-day defeat by Notts was "viewed" by as many as looked in during the 4 days of the Worcestershire triumph. I suspect, having been at Hove on the lovely, sunny Saturday, along with a sparse few hundred others that the same dynamic is at work. County cricket doesn't have attractions to other than a coteries audience when the weather is fine and/or other attractions are in place. It is the same on a message-board, that controversial cirtcumstances pique interest much more readily than an even keel of success. Number of posts has some relation to this of course, but also has to do with individual behaviours. Certain posters are prolific whatever the circumstances, and in their absence not only are the messages from the Originating Poster lost, but also those in response to that, either pro or anti the views and statments.

Indeed. There is nothing to complain about in that victory. You can say the balance of the side looked wrong (as indeed I did) but when you win by an innings, it's hard to argue, particularly against a decent team. You could argue that Briggs would have meant more variety which might have led to a quicker win and the breaking of the big opening stand by Mitchell and D'Oliveira, but, again, the proof of the pudding and all that..... It was heartening to see Finch get some much needed runs as well as Luke Wright. It would be good if Nash could hit a ton up at Leicester this week. As jonboy says, happy days indeed. Another win at Leicester and we will start to be thinking of greater things. The team selection was vindicated by the result However, one of the five front line seamers, in fact the one who replaced Briggs, Magoffin, played virtually no part in the victory

Mod, Another reason, surely, why the two Kent matches hold top spot is because a fair number of their supporters read this Board. This may also apply to Surrey games. But I agree a disastrous performance from Sussex can attract a larger number of people to post and view like those who watch a Formula 1 race stand by the most dangerous corner of the track in the hope of a crash. People love to moan, complain and criticise - especially about the team they support!

dfl, Thanks. Very interesting. Good to see Andrew already making his mark. You're easily sold aren't you. He could have summarised all that in four words - "We'll tell you later."
We'll find out later if he's made his mark, somewhere along the pathway.

Bit late coming to comment! I watched some of all the days except the last when time to victory beat me! Which was a good job because rain wasn't far behind. Very pleasing performance on the whole. The team now looks like it's shaking down into a team rather than the collection of individuals that looked as if they'd just met in the car park we had at the start of the season. It's going to change again. I'm a Magoffin fan but I'm afraid his injuries don't mix with his age and we all know recovery time doesn't improve as we ... go along! I had breakfast last year with Jim Maxwell the Oz cricket commentator, and he was amazed when I told him Mags was still playing here. Philander going is another upset to the team as he's come along nicely. The biggest bonus and relief was Luke Wright smiling as he played. A weight lifted. He's a living example of Captaincy not necessarily being a good thing even if it's your turn. It's the coach's job to know these things. Grace Rd will be interesting. If they perform well, and flaming June doesn't ruin it, we'll be in a better position to know whether to start breathing again. BTW - Rob Andrew not liking criticism from wherever is a bit of a surprise. It surely goes with the territory, Rob.

I don't believe he was irritated by the criticism - he's had a bucketful when working for the RFU - more the anonymity that goes with it. My stance all along has been... I fully understand their frustrations but be transparent by stating your criticisms and upsets face to face with Andrew. Hiding behind a Twitter account is not the way to go about it.

Rob wasn't specific about the source of anonymous criticism. I suspect most of the names on this message board are pseudonyms - but then what difference would it make if we posted under our real names?

He's gonna need thicker skin, bless him. Social media ain't going nowhere and the very nature of it is anonymous. Most people would happily state their grievances to the man's face but it isn't practical to ask him for a meeting every time you want to comment on your team. May as well shut this site down. Or just say lovely happy things when your team doesn't win a game in a dozen or so matches.
If he has any sense he will listen to the people at the members forums, which generally state concerns covered on message boards, and not even look on actual message boards. No point criticising social media or anybody that uses it.
