People on Mills' back again. I like him, like having an OS turn up but he's a big gun Englishman. That nearly rhymed. Obviously getting him on the park has been testing this year but he's playing tonight and he's got rid of Finch for not a lot.
Balance ain't changed, still ridiculously light in the batting. Anything over 150 is problematic.

Superb. 149 for victory. If we can't chase this surely the management will wake up and realise we have a super attack of five, Wiese is always bowling one and we're wasting a batting position. Should realise that anyway.
Mills goes for four runs off his last two overs - 3-20. Well played that man. Maybe Taylor can do to me what Mills has done to half of you.
May the force be with us.

100 off six is quite fast. Van Zyl sockin' it to me instead of Taylor. Thought he didn't like opening.
Start the car.

This is what I've been waiting for all season, a great all-round performance. Well played. GOSBTS!

Still pinching myself. A stunning performance. Perhaps, one of the most imperious Sussex T20 wins I have ever witnessed at Hove and that is saying something. A report coming up tomorrow. I am sure Colin Bowman has a few words to say too.
We are back on track for a QF place.

As it wasn't a great night weather wise felt it was a decent crowd. To watch Sussex appear pretty dismissive of Surrey was a lovely experience (had a nightmare with a client in Surrey for the last few weeks, no connection to cricket, just hearing the word Surrey riles me). Lords next week, would love to see a Sussex win there.
Great to see Mills back and bowling well.

Just back from the game - Surrey born and bred but follow the right county thanks to my Dad's favourite player being John Snow many years ago - tonight was a birthday present for him.
It was a nightmare journey down but thoroughly worth it after an excellent performance from Sussex. Nash and Van Zyl were unbelievable but the whole team were on form. 92 off 6 must be right up there with the highest ever powerplay scores?
Hopefully they keep the momentum going for the last few games.

Sharks Find Their Bite ! After a somewhat tepid 2017 Nat West T20 Blast campaign Sussex Cricket found their teeth at the 1st Central County Ground this evening. On a blowy but all important dry night Chris Nash swaggered with two excellent catches and then a pulsating opening knock of 60 odd. He was backed up by some awesome performances all around the pitch as the Brown Caps of Surrey became Shark Bait. In all truth the 9th game of a 14 match group series was a must win affair for Sussex after having only picked up 6 points thus far. Perhaps that notion had stirred public imagination as a virtual full house took their seats. And they created an electric atmosphere from the very first ball. Surrey did manage to strike a boundary off the 1st delivery but that perhaps was their finest moment. After that the hosts were very much in charge. Tymal Mills was back in the team and his contribution was swift and devastating. He bowled two overs early on and two very late on as he finished on three for 20. That's why we are paying the big bucks. Spinner Will Beer was in the mood finishing with 2 for 19. Sussex bowling was neat an precise in the main however it was the catching which really caught the eye. Laurie Evans held two massively high efforts, keeper Ben Brown had to dive forward to catch Pope and Chris Nash took two of his own. The second was mightily difficult under swirling wind but he kept a good eye on the ball and pouched one handed while falling to his right. See pic. Catches win matches I always say ! Sussex to chase 149. Nash has recently gone on record to suggest that he is in quite good nick at the moment. Well, he certainly proved that with an 'I was there' kind of inns up top with Stiaan Van Zyl. In incredible, rapid and aggressive style the County Ground sweetheart had home fans in raptures with 9 fours and 3 stunning sixes on route to a match winning 64 runs. Van Zyl is really starting to motor in this competition. That's 42 not out at Taunton and then a 50 tonight. Ben Brown and skipper Ross Taylor ran the clock down to a wonderful home victory by 8 wickets. The County Ground was in high spirits at the end of the game. Tonight's performance gave a mere hint of the talent experience and youth that head coach Mark Davis has at his disposal. Its taken a little while to come together but hopefully home fans can see why I have never and will never give up on a quarter final slot come 18th August. With 5 ultra exciting fixtures to come there is lots of hard work to be done but the signs are very positive. We travel to the gorgeous surrounds of St Lawrence Ground Canterbury (Friday 4th August) for what should be something very special indeed. That game will be brought to you here in the next few days. The Sharks are Circling !!

Well done Sussex. Great all around performance but it now needs to be converted into a run of 5 win to be worth anything!
Special mention to Will Beer who I thought was superb when he bowled. Also the openers, Nash and Van Zyl, who could have settled for chipping away at Surrey's total but went into destruction mode instead!!!
Fielding was sensational as well. Catches definitely do win matches in this format!

It was an exhilarating performance which leaves us in with a shout of reaching the QFs. Surrey didn't bat, bowl or field very well and we did all three well. I confess that I wasn't optimistic before the game. I always think Luke Wright needs to score at least 60 to give us a good chance. I also described van Zyl to a visitor to Hove as being the wrong sort of player to open in T20. I couldn't have been more wrong based on last night's display. After a bit of luck with his first lofted drive which might have ended up in mid off's hands, he played in a way I hadn't seen before. But, many T20 games hinge on a bit of a luck and even the pessimists knew we were on our way to two points after 4 or 5 overs.
We all know though that if anything goes wrong with the top order, we are left with five no.8 batsmen coming in from 6 to 10. Luke Wright told me he plans to return for the Middlesex game next week, which will make us, on paper at least, look a lot stronger. If Nash and van Zyl can repeat things tonight, we may yet rise from bottom to QF qualifier. After finding it hard to stop myself mumbling the words (I can't sing to save my life) of GOSBTS as I left the ground last night, I realise this morning that I never thought our form so far was as bad as some thought but nor do I think we are world beaters after one outstanding performance last night.

I can't remember reading such infectious enthusiasm about a match at Hove since Scott Styris scored his 100 off 37 balls. Another fantastic night! hmongbuy.net/video/-vlWskdBSQw
