Not suggesting we go for him, but he's just been released by Surrey and we've made a habit of collecting their old boys. Bowls pretty nippy right arm and cat bat a bit, at what level though, is the big question. Personally, I think it's time we opted for quality over quantity if we are bringing in a seamer, but he looks a possible Robbo project.

I think a number of second division clubs will be interested in securing his signature. Never given a chance at Surrey.
The emergence of Curran, Kapil and Winslade was the final nail in his coffin.

I thought he would end up somewhere like Kent, but we definitely need another seamer to ease the load on Magoffin. We know Gidman will be on the move, and he will be the big mover of the winter. Some of the others who might have moved, Tremlett, Palladino, Foottit and Fletcher, have all signed new deals. Although he's still under contract, I suspect Harris may be on the move from Middlesex, with probably a return to Glamorgan now looking the best bet. It looks like it will rooting around in the bargain bins for us again, unless we can find a Kolpak

Why let's not develop our own, let's get everyone's cast offs! What are we a rehabilitation centre?
What's the academy for? If it's not working get someone in to make it work!
Or Robinson will promote him above, oh FHP or Finch or Piolet or Beer. That's the norm isn't it? Imports before Sussex?
Why would we want someone who is in a Div 2 club, can't get a game in CC, 50 & 20 over cricket? Best going to another club.

Well we may not, but there were plenty on here, myself included, who were unsure when we were sniffing around Chris Jordan. the ultimate aim is to produce our own, of course, but we will still have to supplement them with talent from outside. It's a myth that we don't produce our own. We regularly field a team that contains 5 or 6 home produced players, which I think is pretty good for a county with our catchment area. As I said, I'm not suggesting that we do sign Jewell, though I've no objection to taking a look at him in any remaining second eleven games. The fact is, at the moment, we desperately need to find a seamer to replace Chris Jordan, and to give some support to Steve Magoffin. Both Hatchett and Hobden, in my opinion, have made good progress this season, but the fact remains, that the latter remains our only quick who will be under 25 by the start of next season. It will always be a balance, at the moment we aren't producing too many fast bowlers, but are churning out more wicketkeepers than we can handle. Unfortunately, that's the way it goes, so yes, we will have to look elsewhere for the moment, to bolster our seam attack |
