We've already got Nabi and Rayner, but you can never have too many off-spinners (especially as they're in style this week). Anyway those two are temporary signings of course, and O'Riordan has been plucked from the academy with a view to the future, which is what it's there for. Looking forward to seeing O'Riordan. Let's hope it works out well with him. It's reassuring to read Paul Downton describing him as "a three-dimensional cricketer". Length, breadth and height are prerequisites for a county player these days.

I think I'm right in saying that O'Riordan - who is an exact contemporary of Zak Crawley from Tonbridge School - was in the Academy but left a year or two ago, and only came back to Kent cricket earlier this year when he contacted Min Patel and asked if he could pay a game or two. He has done very well for the Seconds, and well deserves a chance in the First XI (though I reckon Rayner will still play in the CC games). From his school record I'd say batting was the strongest part of his game then.
